Carbon filter

Hey guys I am very new to this but I just got my tent all set up. Where I am I cannot have any odor of marijuana so I bought an exhaust fan and carbon filter. The filter goes is good for 400 CFM and the fan is also. I have sealed the flange where the filter is connected to the fan. There is definitely a negative pressure system established. What are some ways to test if the smell is going to work? Say if I lit a cigarette in there would be an accurate test? Or a candle? I just need to make sure 100% I have it set up right. Thank you

if your carbon filter is rated 400cfm then your fan should be at about 200 for better smell control so that the smelly air moves slowly over the carbon

Will you be extracting the air outside or back into the room? Im guessing back into the room.. lookinto a speed controller for the fan thall do what crimsonecho stated about air moving slowly.
If you run the ducting with a couple of bends before the filter itll also help lower cfm..

i’d also get a dimmer type shit for the fan i can’t remember the name for them but it lets you adjust the cfms like the brightness on leds. you know 100%-75%-50% and so on. what the f were they called lmfao

Back into the room. So that brings up a good question. Should the filter be installed as intake or exhaust? Should I have the filter in the tent with the fan pulling air into it or have the filter in the room with the fan pushing air through it?

I know most filters nowadays can both pull or push air through them.
I dont trust pushing air through because ive never done it, though it probably works.
If so it ve better to push air through it that way you can set the filter outside the tent run some duting therfore lowering cfms. Maybe et it ontop of the tent. On a pice of plywood or sometso it not sitting on the cloth. Itll save you space in the tent aswell..

you can pull air for a couple of grows and when it starts to leak some smell then you can start pushing the air through the filter and that would get you through another grow if you’re interested. i regularly do that and it works.

Yeah I might just have to get a bigger filter. I have a 16” long one right now for 400 CFM but they make a 24” one for 600 CFM that I found
