Yea, I think you are thinking of trichomes, trichomes turn amber.

In order for your plants to be ripe, all pistils gotta turn color from white to orange, this pistils then start receding back into the bud, that's when you want to harvest. While that happens your plant will continue to add weight, and the buds will get denser and denser.

Ill tell you my experience, the first harvest I did, I harvested at day 56 aka week 8 of flower, and they were ok, because homegrown is the best. In this site I asked around and people explained me the signs of ripeness, like the pistils. Next harvest I didn't harvest untill day 107 aka 15 weeks ish, my plants were sativa and they needed all of that time to get ripe like people on this site told me. Let me tell you dude, difference between harvesting at day 56 and day 107 is night and day difference, the taste, the smell, and the overall yield improved. Its worth the wait.

Now im not saying wait 107 days, maybe your plant will require less, but do wait untill pistils have all changed color and started receding, dont worry about trichomes, I did some tests with the microscope I got in my home, and by that time trichomes will be a good mixture between cloudy and amber.
