Yeah I bought my house in 2008 for a $1 and a handshake. I don't think those ways of doing business exist anymore. It's now roughly worth 5 times as much as I actually paid. But so are all the other houses. So it's bunk. Got some equity at my disposal but I am a man of simple means and don't need much else. The less you want the more you got.

same here in Sacramento. Migrants from the SF bay area have driven up home prices dramatically.
I had my home paid off before I retired 12 years ago. However no one wanted to loan me money to buy a pot farm, so I took out a loan on my house. So now my $1,200 house payment is really a farm payment, the bank just don't know it. So I have a $400,000 house in town and 20acre pot farm in the hills for $1,200 a month. It's working for me.
