All cannabis plants can develop into hermaphrodites given the right conditions. Stress can and does play a factor. You're right that there is a flood of crappy genetics out there but lots of people are growing those crappy genetics and are not getting hermies so it can't just be that.
All I know is I've never had any issue in decades of growing regardless of what genetics except for wild type landrace strains a couple of times. I'm just not ready to scapegoat one potential cause because from what I see looking at the forums there are many other factors.
Plants leaves should not be curling and turning yellow with brown dead spots on them like the ones in the photo. Especially at the stage of flowering that plant is in.
You never heard about hermies back when people just kept things simple with their feeding and had healthy plants with lush soft leaves from seed to harvest. Now there are all these plants that have been overfed or improperly fed with dark green crispy leaves becoming hermies. That can't be overlooked and ignored by just assuming it's the seeds.
I won't bother cutting and pasting anything but if anyone wants to read a good study on Hermaphroditism in Marijuana this is pretty good.
