Cool, my daughter moved to Fredericksburg. I'll have to check that area out when I go to visit my grandson. My dad has a house near Charlottesville on a lake so we grew up fishing both in DC and down there. The river in DC was in rough shape in the 70s and 80s but has been cleaned up a lot since then. Rockfish and smallmouth are way more common now then when I was a kid. I still fish for carp and catfish I just can't bass fish anymore because the constant casting and retrieving is too hard on my back. Wounded Warriors takes us out every year for a trout fishing trip that I do too. I love some good eating fresh trout.
 
It's so cool to sight fish salamanders late spawn in the spring time. Once you get past the annoying little male if he's hanging around the bed, watching a 8-10 pound bass gulp a bait just yards off the shore is such a blast. Catch and release only for me with the big girls though. I did have a couple of epoxy replica mounts done of special fish over the years. If you look closely,the male is right on the gravel.Hes a lighter color and about 5 lbs

Yeah, it's a lifelike replica mount I had done. You send the guy the length, girth and weight of the fish along with as many detailed pics as you can take quickly then you can release the fish. He uses epoxy replicas and airbrushes them to look like your individual fish and has different backgrounds you can do. Mine is really basic, the ones with stones and driftwood are amazing. This was in a lake in VA. I have most of my big bass in VA and a few in TX.
 
Does anyone use shooting heads or running lines with different density heads?

Loop to loop connections are convenient but they're a bit lumpy going through the guides I find...

So... I cut the loop from the line then used nail polish remover to get 4/5" of the coating off the line to expose the core.

With the braided core exposed I pushed the running line up inside the braid now when it's pulled it tightens like a Chinese finger trap effect, after I got it right the way up inside the core I tried my best to pull it apart and couldn't :-)
I then whipped the edges of the line to take off any shoulder then whipped the end and gave them a coat of aquasure that had been thinned with toluene to seal it all off and prevent fraying.

It's now like silk going through the guides I'm pleased with that little mod :bigjoint:
