Why don't more ppl grow auto flowers?

The first six pages of this thread were posted between 2016 and 2018, in terms of the evolution of auto breeding, with the top breeders I've found more potency and strain stability with each passing year and generation.

That said, they will always lag behind photos in many ways. So, either their benefits outweigh their weaknesses, or they don't, up to each grower to decide for themselves. It's possible that there is no right or wrong answer, just different options for different needs.

Hey guys, how is everyone?
When you guys grow a plant how long does it take to finish?

I know I used to veg for a month and then flower for about 3 months. Thats 5 months just to grow a couple plants.
When I came across autoflowers I couldn't believe that it only takes 2 months to harvest.

So you can harvest 2 autoflowers before one regular plant. That's a pretty big difference so I was wondering why more ppl don't grow auto's.
I'm growing photoperiod takes me around 107 days from seed to harvest .
1-2 weeks seedling . vegg for 1 month and flip the switch going to harvest this one next Friday

Not even close to ready. White pistils are a major not ready yet signal.
At least another month to go.

I like autos and regular. They both have their good points. I think autos are getting better every year. In my opinion they can be easier for new growers. No light leak problems, no timing issues.

My main strain is photo with clones but I do an auto in my veg room every once in a while for variety. The kief and then hash I made from the Northern Lights auto was unusually smooth smoking. The wife liked it.

But I prefer clones from one photo strain. I'm a serial seed killer but near 100% on clones. I know, it's dumb. But there it is.

It is pretty frosty, and has a good stink :D nl5/haze from akbb.
I dont harvest by looking at trichomes, so i have no idea. Just wait till it stops throwing new white pistils
I feel like this is a easier and better way to do it then hovering over a plant holding a jeweler loop with uv rays pelting the back of my skull I think the only thing about why that's not how it's done now days is it comes down to storage for cannabis products shelf life longer. waiting for the flowers to finish doing what they do the trics are ripe you can chop dry and cure for smell and flavor . Watching for a percentage to change color is to cut it down dry cure it and ship it out and it sit on a shelf all the while those clear and milky trics mature over time don't gotta worry about it losing half it's potency because the other half is ripe by then old school way for the home win new age for big time industry and longer storage life. I feel like I type too much and need to keep my fingers away from the keyboard.

If you wait till the tops are good done, you have a good mix, top to bottom, maturity wise.
I prefer mine alittle early, but let them run longer for the extra quantity.

I use a microscope with bluetooth and my tablet. I take a bunch of photos. I hate jewelers loops. Lol. I am not worrying about either shipping or shelf life. I just want the right timing on harvest. Oxydation of trichomes and the chemicals within.

I usually go with ten percent amber.

I can see why you don't want to use that method if all you have is a loop.

Have a good one!

Novice grower, autos only so far.

When I get a grow room built in my garage and all the environmental issues dealt with, I’ll try photos.

So far, 5 plants have yielded 2 to 3.5 ozs each, which I’m fine with. I like to have a variety, and I just don’t smoke a whole lot (on my own, an ounce will last me 3 months lol). All ready from 77 to 89 days.

My first try with a Mephisto Strawberry Nuggets yielded 10.5 ounces. My friends are getting nice presents.

So far just indica dominant hybrids, and other than the CBD plant, they all get me high. Which is the point, no?

Horses for courses.

(IME, stoners will not only argue over the brand of rolling paper, but also how you’re supposed to lick it. LOL)

Less high smaller yields . Hard to top or film
On there schedule cant veg longer or shorter . Hard to clone
You get what you get and have no real input in shaping the plant
Lights are on longer in flower

Interesting topic considering how I am only about a week into my first Autoflower grow... A lot of viewpoints here... Lest we forget, Henry Ford thought the Model T, only available in black, was the be-all, end-all of automobiles and never saw a reason for change... He pushed back brutally against his son Edsel who saw the future rather than living in the past... But the public also had had differing views which is why we now have so many different automobile manufacturers, models, and options... Everybody has their own reasons why they like a manufacturer, model, and options... We, as humans, are all about having choices and when they don't exist, we create them... Not many of us are still driving a black Model T to work everyday, are we, and didn't Dale Earnhardt resist head and neck restraints right up until his death due to not wearing them...??? The concept of progress is all in the eye of the beholder... But I digress...

Its another option, but the discovery and proliferation of autos coincides with an era of cultivation driven by corporate profit and the illusion of scientific understanding.

The people cultivating in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and early 00s were producing more "original" bud. They found characteristics defined by what they liked and didn't like over hundreds of grows and thousands of seeds. We are just now starting to understand what all the cannibanoids do and how they interact with each other along with terms to make each high unique.

Corporate America has decided THC and THCa are all that matters and new strains with more THC, fatter buds, and shorter flower times are all that matters. The average weed smoker follows suit.

I think autos have a place in the culture, but we need more dedicated cultivators bringing out unique qualities of ruderalis, along with best practices. I don't need another strain claiming to be White Widdow with a gimmick flowering time.
