Are you talking about to check and see if it's done drying? Then you want to be checking the main stems you're hanging and not the tiny little individual buds that are sticking off of them. Don't wait until a really thick stem will snap though. It's sort of a feeling thing unfortunately. They should snap but if a few don't it's not the end of the world. Getting a couple of small hygrometers to put in the jars you're going to cure in is a great idea until you're a little more used to reading the buds state of dryness and cure. They're pretty cheap and can give you an idea of where you are humidity wise.

Look, does it feel crispy and dry on the outside, if it does then start storage. Burp and sample. Repeat to your preference, then just store. Did the sticks snap when bent?
