Gypsum is a great amendment in soil, both for calcium and to loosen up the earth. It's a good idea to have it tested before you start amending things though, just so you know what to add.

Plants need to be established well before putting them in chicken manure. Not saying itll burn but theres a probable chance fresh manure could be too hot.
