Yesterday's Mass Shooting.

The United States has something other countries do not. A constitutional right for every citizen to own a gun and uncontrolled gun violence.

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.
It is a product of the time and place. Even so it remains enshrined in the core document. Propose a way to achieve your desire within the constraints of reality.

I live in a reality where I don’t have to worry about my teacher wife and student daughter getting shot at their school.

You can have your reality, clinging to the words on a document written by a bunch of assholes 250 years ago.

But guns aren’t a problem in the United States, huh?

The 2nd amendment zealots conveniently ignore the "well regulated militia" component

Big difference between ensuring that a militia could get muskets to the current insanity.

I like guns, have done GSSF competitions, still enjoy bird hunting, but there's no world where an 18yr old should have access to an AR-15

The guns stats vs. the rest of the world are astounding; literally an order of magnitude worse than the rest of the world.

What we’re talking about is regulation. I don’t own a gun up here in Canada but I can get one if I want one.

I just can’t get one tonight and I have no problem with that.

RCMP required a side arm and shotgun minimum on our fly in fishing trips. Two only. But mandatory guns for real threats.

They don’t, actually. In the 18th century, well-regulated and militia meant things not recognizable to most today. The opening clause of the amendment is not conditional but explanatory.

I honestly wonder if the constitution is not the greatest scam ever imposed. Written to keep exploitative white men in power. And I ask as an exploited white man.

Read up on your constitutional rights to actually own firearms there is nothing that pertains to private ownership of weapons it is in reference to states arming themselves with independent militias and seeking out arms from private dealers through non government regulated channels not that anybody has the right to arm themselves however they feel fit it’s how it’s been misconstrued. Politicians and extremists have poisoned the language detailed in our constitution and created a fabricated radical ideology of what the framers of the constitution meant

In 1939 the U.S. Supreme Court considered the matter in United States v. Miller, 307 U.S. 174. There, the Court adopted a collective rights approach, determining that Congress could regulate a sawed-off shotgun which moved in interstate commerce under the National Firearms Act of 1934 because the evidence did not suggest that the shotgun "has some reasonable relationship to the preservation or efficiency of a well regulated militia . . . ." The Court then explained that the Framers included the Second Amendment to ensure the effectiveness of the military.

Now that’s been amended and reversed by the Supreme Court since but is better understood and interpreted in that case and stood that way for 70 years until 2008

I was agreeing with you saying guns should be way more regulated and controlled. No matter how we feel about it it’s why our way of life is supposedly based off of and isn’t going anywhere so having a more realistic understanding of it and more peaceful compromise on it is all I’m saying we should do and approaching things in that manner would be a better way than arguing and creating this radical thought on how it was wrote to protect white supremacy and crazy gun owners who shouldn’t own firearms in the first place but anyway I was on your side bud no need to be so aggressive it’s that aggression that leads to people becoming so angry it’s a shame to say it but we have to meet this violence with peace and understanding and contemplation and through honest conversation and compromise

I am not sure about this, but it seems there has been incremental, possibly exponential, increase in mass shootings over the last few years.

That suggests an epidemic on at least the idea that the sharp uptick represents more folks willing to step over a pretty basic line.
