Red/purple stems and mag deficiency with LEDs?

How about the suncloak and “ hut “ ?

If I remember right Hybrid would try to get as many “ tester “ rigs out of manufacturers as possible. I remember scores of peeps draggin him about it. It got so bad i thought RIU put the poor guy on RIU’s most banned poster.

Great chart, proper ph pen storage and calibration is necessary. Haven't phed in ages, runs around 6 after adding nutes so just don't now. Less problems than when l used ph down. Fluctuating 5.5 To 6.5 seems the right way to ph. If you believe chart which l do.

true. bluelab ftw. you want that pH fluctuation in the root zone, not necessarily your nutrient solution, so solution pH depends on your medium. For example I use a peat sunshine mix 4 for dtw hydro. Peat moss is highly acidic when wet and over time the lime gets flushed out of the medium. In my experience pH my nutrient solution to 6.5 allows for a root zone to fluctuate through the 5-7 range during the process of irrigation and drying. If I irrigate with 6.2pH or lower for two irrigations in a row, I start to see calcium and magnesium lockouts almost immediately. In recirculating systems or dtw without a highly acidic medium I'm sure that fluctuation of the pH solution is more important but I've been letting my plants and the lime in my medium handle it for years.
 
I think red Stems and funky magnesium burns are really Light Stress. Like the dudes new to LED are getting their plants too close to the intense lights.

Red Leaf Stems and Red streaks in stems and branches of healthy plants seem to be a good thing. Under any lights.

The solid red stems and purple/grey patches under LED seem to be a bad thing. When that shit happens to me the stems and branches and leaves are green and look OK. Then just above that, where the light is too intense the colors change and shit gets dry and brittle looking.
 
Red and purple stems are often just strain related. I've been growing under HID's for decades and have had hundreds of healthy plants with red/purple stems. I never gave it any thought as the plants were healthy and produced well. I didn't start to see people panicking over it until I started reading the forums five or so years ago. It's not necessarily a deficiency or anything to do with LED lights. I think many are quick to create a problem when one doesn't exist. Such is the cannabis growing scene.
 
Red / purple stems often leads to the belief that magnesium is out of whack - not necessarily true.

Some genetics express coloration . As long as it looks healthy . Most of time calcuim / magnesium are already covered in nutes / bagged medium or water source.

However ……….. Excess calcium CAN cause lockouts.
 
Red petitoles are usually from a burple light overabundance in reds compared to the other wavelengths. I found purple, the more menacing w/ a tendency to purple full stems as a reaction to high intensity white dominant (green,yellow dominant) w/ Cyan, often far red & violet defficient. Like cobs. I couldn't veg with cobs unless real dim, supplemental helped. Took me a long time to consistently beet the purple stems n low yeilds under white. Epsom but not to much & dwindle down at the end. Nice if they dry daily or every other. Air movement on the floor and not direct as primary creating flow. 78-84•f, 55-65% humidity lights on, 45/50% lights off. No standing water. Air exchanges lights on/off. Check run off. Goodluck!
