I have grown papavera somniferum before so let me give some advice i wish someone would have given me. DO NOT overcrowd! After germination thin to about 4-12 inches between each seedling. DO NOT try and grow hydro. Papavera is an exergenic plant. This means it grows best under very dry conditions (like afgahnastan). DO NOT waste your time slicing pods and harvesting latex unless you pods are as big as your fist. You will need at least a 1/4 to smoke and feel it. This may not sound like alot but trust me once you've seen how tiny a dried opium blob can be you'll understand. It is much easier to cut and dry the whole pod as soon as it starts to get that bluish sheen on it or you can simply not do anything and they will dry on the plant. The pods can be made into a tea after drying releasing seeds. Start dosing at around 8-10g per person and work up from there as pod strength varies WILDLY from batch to batch. I now make tea with 15-18g per dose, but i like to get folded. Poppy tea tastes TERRIBLE as all opiots are extremely alkaline (bitter) but the buzz is alot better and much much longer lasting than with the vast majority of synthetic opiots.

Smoking the dried opium latex is nice but it takes ALOT of pods to get enough to smoke and the buzz wears off quickly. Slicing is also very difficult as the wall of the pod is usually around a 1/16th of an inch and if you accidentally slice all the way through all the latex will flow to the inside and be lost. You can always try to do both but if you're gonna do that don't let them stem dry naturally outside as they are legal to grow UNTIL you slice em. Don't use any pesticides or nutes on these as it will make you sick later. To make tea, heat about a cup of water per dose to boiling. Grind up the pods to as small pieces as possible. As soon as the water starts to boil remove it from the heat and add the poppy dust. Brew for at least 12 minutes and stir every few minutes. Finally, strain the mash through a t-shirt, add as much sugar as you can, hold your nose and get ready for some really really bitter shit. Don't be surprised if it takes a 2-3 hours to start feeling it. Sometimes it takes forever to kick in, sometimes it takes as little as an hour. You will notice strange joint sensations as it begins. Not really pain and not exactly pleasant. These will go away pretty quickly. If you can't wait for your own to be ready just buy some off e-bay.

I decided to try hydro'ing a few Persian Whites myself about 6 weeks ago. So far, I haven't been able to get ANY of these seeds to sprout. Is there any chance that the seeds are new and have to sit a while before planting (IE: fall to spring kinda thing?)
So far, I've tried germing about 50 seeds... no luck yet with any of them.

A big thing that would help me is to know where you got these seeds. But, you may not want to tell me. A real easy mistake to make while trying to germinate these is putting too much soil over the seed, you just need enough to barely cover up the seeds. Also try putting very fine soil on top of the seeds to germinate them. The soil with little wood chips and stuff in it doesnt work very well for putting over the seeds. If you got them from a store in the spice section those will still germinate, but the germination rate will be very low as compared to some seeds you get from the internet or a florist. did i answer ur question?

I THINK it has something to do with the opium extraction. As long as you just grow em and look at em you're ok. It's when you start trying to extract the latex that you cross the line.
I got mine off Ebay, from some lady in Conneticuit. Lots of peeps selling ALL the different varieties of Somniferum there. Just do a search for Persian White... It's supposed to be the best... not that I'll ever get to find out at the rate I'm going.

In and on rockwool. I grow hydro, figgured I'd stick with it. I've tried putting seeds down in the center hole, closing some, and leaving others open. I also tried just laying seeds on the surface of a damp cube, and laying them on the surface of a submerged (8th inch) cube.
So far, no luck at all.
