Fascism and the Republican Party

I know tons of people who supported Trump and they hate his stupid tweets, and they hate his in your face 8th grade shit, and they cetainly are not fascists and nazi loving cocksuckers.
They just believe in things like strong borders, anti rioting, anti crime, low taxes, a right to choose (all republicans that i know could give a shit if you abort a fetus, thats your business), states rights, right to have guns. Yes, most normal people think the capitol riots were shit and arrest all, just as they said arrest all during the BLM rioting and burning bullshit, same as they say legal immigration is just fine, close the border so its legal, not a free for all. They just dont agree with some of the policies on the left and wont vote that way, it doesnt make them any more nazi fasist than than anyone else. They get lumped in there by people who want a country divided.
The democratic party has moved to the center with a lot of former republicans and independents having more of a voice. The battle between left and right will be fought out inside the democratic party and they are not the ones using divisive and violent language. The republican party is under the control of a fascist base, it ain't just Trump, but those he filled the party with and they are not an option for an American patriot. America is divided between the future and the past, between democracy and fascism or those who naively support it. To defend and support the US constitution is the core of being an American, folks swear oaths to do it, people defend the constitution, it can't defend itself. Many republicans are more loyal to Trump than the constitution, not all, but enough to disqualify them. 142 of them voted to delay certification of the election AFTER the capitol had been violated FFS, they were part of the conspiracy to overthrow the government too, only a fool would trust such people with their children's future.

There is a huge difference between MAGA GOP and the, what is it? 30% or 40% of Republicans who aren't? I'll call them conservative Republicans. They both might have the same homophobic, misogynist, low regard for the civil rights act, racist, build the wall, gun toting beliefs. That IS the Republican Party these days. But you know what? Before Trump came along, I was of the belief that we could have our differences and our democracy too.

That ended after Trump began his assault on the results of the Nov 3, 2020 election. He lost and so he rejected the outcome. He conspired to overthrow the results in a bloody coup. It was there for all to see on Jan 6, 2021. He and his followers are setting this country up for authoritarian rule by an autocratic leader. This is what fascism looks like.

So, I hear you about "not all Republicans are fascists". But the majority are. A clear bright line can be drawn separating conservative Republicans from MAGA GOP fascists. It comes down to whether or not they support democracy and comes down to what they believe happened on Jan 6. The people who say it was "just tourists", "just a few radicals", "an act to save democracy", "stopping the steal" or whatever lie used to justify that act of insurrection. Those people are fascists. Liz Cheney is not. Mitt Romney is not. Adam Kinzinger is not. A poll conducted in June found that 30% of the Republican Party do not believe Trump's Big Lie (that the election was stolen). Those people are probably not fascist. Another poll taken in July found that 61% of Republicans say the Jan 6 assault on Congress was justified. Those who say that are fascist or probably are.

So, we can have difference in policies. We need differences and debate. Just don't use political violence to force those differences upon us. Make voting easier, stop threatening elections officials for overseeing fair elections. Support democracy, let the chips fall where they may on election day. I'd like to see Republicans compete with ideas rather than suppress voting but we can work it out so long as our democracy is observed. Most of all, if you aren't one of the 61%, DO SOMETHING to save your party from fascism.

BTW, if you support a woman's right to choose, could you please not vote for a person who does not?

The way the party voted en bloc to block any legislation that helps ordinary Americans, then censured the republicans among them, led me to an awful realization.

That man is not a cause of the current authoritarian push, but an effect.

I do so hope they catch McCarthy armpit-deep in the insurrection cookie jar. The weasel jumped districts, denying me the pleasure of voting for his opponent.

I don't know who the author is. This is his story. I live near Portland, attended the rallies and counter protest rallies he talks about (before the pandemic, I stopped attending in 2020). Much of what he talks about I've witnessed and can attest to the accuracy in what he said.

That said, this is his opinion. I don't think fascism has been "stopped" in Portland, I think it's just gone underground and will come back. But I think he's right in his conclusion.

Historically, fascists win when they decide to go for it, to throttle democracies, believing that no one is organized enough to fight them. They take advantage of the fact that most people fear confrontation and that the police tend to tolerate their activism. In Portland, people stood up and opted to call their bluff.

Diligent research, nonviolent organizing and the eventual acquiescence of the state and federal government to enforce the law against right-wing agitators were all factors in the success we see now. But none of it would have happened if an awful lot of people hadn’t shown up, for five years straight, ready to fight.

If the rest of America wants to get through the present crisis, they might learn something from that.

The problem with all of this, on both sides, is that you has jagoffs who run this country, on the left and right, pitting people against each other by using broad generalizations to characterize everyone in the other party. What a bunch of bullshit this is. Americans have more in common than they dont. The asshole politicians on the left and right, as well as cable pricks, who could give a fuck about normal people and would sell you out faster than shit if it means covering their ass, its these bastards who create this situation.
Americans have more in common than they dont, but you wouldnt know it listening to this crap.
classic both sides fail...both sides have shit they need to work on. one side has a few problems, the other side is nothing but fucking problems...this is not a both are worse situation, this is a republicans are way the motherfuck worse situation.

There is no significant difference in how either republicans or democrats view things. They both favor telling otherwise peaceful people what to do, how to spend their money and what they can and cannot do with their own bodies.

Both think a majority of people, none of whom have any right to do something as individuals can somehow create a right by force of a majority.

Both profess their religious faith in politics by groveling in front of the elected for some kind of scrap from the privilege table.

democrats believe in all the shit you just quoted, with a few conditions...no one wants to take away everyone's guns, but high capacity weapons designed to do maximum damage have to go...they make it way too easy for psychos to kill large groups of people. sorry, the good of the many outweigh the desires of the few. republicans don't want to give people a right to choose, they want people to have one choice, their choice...when abortion was thought to be constitutionally protected, then women had a choice, they could have the child, or not...that is a choice. being forced to carry a child to term that you do not want is pretty much temporary slavery, that comes with some pretty heavy psychological tolls...so that a minority of people can be happy.

If an individual doesn't have a right to do somehing to somebody... A group of those same type of people cannot magically acquire the right to do the thing none of them as individuals have. It is impossible.

Equality of rights of all individuals insists my above statement is true.

If all these "good republicans" would quit supporting candidates that believe in the Big Lie & that the dems stole the election, maybe people wouldn't see them as an enemy. This is dividing the country.

This is really scary..not the speech, but the donor plea..reminds me of that CPA who used to refer clients to me. A pillar of the community and was so trusted he handled police union money..something about a sex addiction led him to steal it.
