The fishing thread ( not about fish fertilizer)

It's amazing how far we've come as a society to build and make ways for people to catch giant smelly animals. I used to fish. Largemouth bass mainly, pickerel, crappie, carp for the fight. bullheads. all in a lake/pond behind my house. never went for stripers in the Hudson river, so many people are all about that and nothing else in NY. I don't like how fish smell and I don't eat them and I don't like throwing them back, I heard 75% of them die when you do. So I quit.

I will say one thing I learned is absolutely true... Buzzbaits are the shit.

I been anti gary loomis shimano rods since they bought him out. Had a older G loomis salmon/striper rod that i bought Long time ago before he sold to them.
Bought a TFO that was pretty much the same thing about 6yrs ago. designed by g loomis.
I just googled the whole g loomis with shimano thing and i’d prob buy g loomis again. Still quality.

I still have my OG rod and reel from age 14. A friend left it at my house and never picked it up. He's actually still in the town we grew up, not friends anymore, and the rod and reel are actually headed here from Los Angeles at this moment, in a shipment from my old storage unit

It's an Abu Garcia open spinning reel. I hate bait cast and spin cast, I could never get either working right. With the right spinning reel I can pull in a 12 pound carp on 4 pound test if i take a good long time. Fly tying was a nice lesson in understanding the specifics of nature. The thought of the smell of fish on my fingers makes me gag.

The older 301 curados with felt drags and power handles. Only one dude makes real power handles for the curado. Actually balanced. Daves reels. For casting that is. When you’re casting 2oz weights from the bank as far as you can it matters. Older 200’s were killer too

When I go striper and sturgeon fishing we are slinging anywhere from 10 to 16 ozs plus bait.

The current where we fish is quite heavy.

Oh yeah. Remember, i’m from there too. I was just talking when bank fishing for the salmon up here. Flossing. 2 oz is the most you’ll ever cast. The feather, Sac and american.
Striper and sturgeon fishing in the delta i’ll usually be using a penn type reel from boat or a big spinning reel/surf pole from the bank to huck that big ass pyramid weight out there. Would be too much for a lower profile casting reel i would imagine.
