Larf Testing - anyone else grab a small lower branch early just to do test

I grabbed a very low branch near the ground to just see. The plant itself as a sativa is a couple weeks out...(for quite a while now) but I just wanted to test so grabbed a lower branch of smaller buds and dried em so I could do a quick smoke.

I just wish the plant would finish. Ugh I think I'll do some 12/12 indicates indoors to appease my long wait on this outdoor organic sativa.

Yes yes btw..I didn't cure before testing that was the impatient part but it was just the lowest smallest branch and early. Smoked good tho. I forgot to complete my thoughts.

I always pull a small sample in time for something to smoke while trimming. Also, I try to run more than one strain at a time, especially if one is expected to take a long time. That way there’s some type of “reward“ while you’re still waiting for the slower ones.

If I'm wondering I'll pull a couple small buds from the top/sides because the bottoms maybe more immature. Then quick dry in the oven or my volcano and try. I expect it to be somewhat wet and harsh I'm just looking for the high profile at that point not smoke quality.

If I've grown tall plants I've occasionally chopped the top part and come back to the bottoms in a week or two. Your buds look like they had a couple weeks left. Best of luck on your grow.

Pulling a sample from what’s most matured makes sense, for science ahum

LOL I have tons of weed, my problem is too much. Usually I'm running seed tables these days but when I finally get to run a new strain on a sensimilla table I will check to see when I want to pull her. That's when I'm pulling for my stash ;D

I'm just getting ready to chop my McCormick Skunk #1 seed table and my next table will be Greenhouse SSH fems and following that Mr.Nice's SSH regs which I'll be doing my next seed table of. I'm looking forward to 2023!

Samples are something I’ve rarely done, but when I did, it was from the whole lot that got chopped and I was just smoking before it all got dried lol.
You have exciting shit goin’ on!

Thank you, I do :) I'm just sieving seeds and smoking McCormick's Northern Lights #2 and #5. The Skunk is surprising me. I didn't expect it to be full on pinene!! Christmas tree smoke for Christmas ha! We'll see if she retains that after harvest.

Here's the NL #5 I'm currently cleaning and getting ready to pack.

I tend to expend all patience in the grow, and always find myself losing my grip come harvest time with taking samples. I do take from the lower parts of the plant, but with the way train them it's only about 6-8" into the canopy. Larfy/looser buds will dry quicker tho.
I let it sit out for 6-7 days & try it. I won't ridicule myself of any bad taste, as it's common when not completely dried correctly. As @curious2garden said.. I'm only testing the high when I do this as well.

I’d like your post, but I’m still a fuzzy
Edit: just got my stripes

If seeds were worth what people charge, you could send half the degenerate kids where you live to community college lmao.

Recently I heard gardening gloves are better than latex gloves for trimming. Going to test that theory soon. Something about trichomes not adhering the same way as latex as well as breathability. No pools of sweat inside your glove?!?

Exactly if I trained mine I wouldn't worry about the location but I let mine grow like Christmas trees. If I waited a week what I'm chopping won't be like what I harvested a week prior. So yeah it's harsh as hell but I do get the high profile which informs me if I should pull then or wait a bit. I only do that occasionally now but initially it was pretty important.

I love my latex gloves and when properly fitted you get the tactile sensitivity you need to trim well. I don't get pools of sweat, just some moisture  Trichomes will stick to anything  With latex gloves you can easily pop in the freezer for a few and then snap off the hash. I don't think I could bear working in gardening gloves, too course and not enough tactile sensitivity.

I didn’t consider tactile sensitivity. That’s a really important detail I glossed over. I exaggerated about pooling sweat, but damn does it get moisttt. The tactile part rings true, I prefer to do it with no protection for that reason, but that is a different animal entirely and mostly not worth it because when you’re done, you want to be finished and not wash skin with a quart of ISO haha.

Have you tried oil? I keep some vegetable oil in my grow for just that! I also hate the feeling of oil on my hands but iso drying and crack my hands feels worse. Ahh the sacrifices we must make :eyesmoke: and Dawn dishwashing liquid removes the oil and works as a surfactant when I need one.
