Very intesting.

That makes sense actually. Grown in the wild they deal with a whole lot more making them a bit more muscled.

When farmed there are really no predators to run from.

If it's tidal water it makes even more sense as they have to build muscle to be stronger to deal with the tides.

It's kinda like the difference between catching a Striper In a lake vs the same sized striper in the delta or the ocean.

The Delta Striper will always feel bigger than the same sized lake Striper during the fight due to the environment it grew up in.

I’ve never kept any out of the lake i used to catch them out of so I can’t compare the meat but it does seem like the same length doesn’t have the girth as one in the delta/ocean.
New Hogan. Ever fish there? Isn’t or wasn’t all that good there anymore but we used to go out there in my buddies bass boat waiting till you see a boil. Dart up close to the boil and huck our super spooks in. Hella fun. Just like back in the day when you used to see boils all the time in the delta and could do the same thing.
Hogan has a disc golf course there now. That’s been the only reason i’d go back there because like i said, it seems like that place sucks now for the stripers

We used to fish Lake Pardee. They stocked it with some healthy trout back in the day. Caught a tagged 4.5 lb. Smallmouth that won 2nd in a tourney back in the late 70’s. You could fish New Hogan , Pardee, and Camanche all in the same day. The scenery in that area sucked though; rolling grassland with few trees. I got to admit Wiz and Jig are some “fishing fools”, I mean that in a good way, You guys are killing it, keep posting those catches I can live vicariously through you guys.
 
At Little Grass Valley in the fall the big trout follow the kokanee up to the creek where they spawn at. We bank fished and caught them on a part of a marshmallow and night crawlers. Smallest one was 19". Broke a couple off using 6 pound leader, my fault for trying to horse them in. That was a good day. There are always planters to catch, and there are some BIG browns in there. Those are no longer stocked so I would release them to keep breeding. Kokanee are small there, but tasty.

I lived in Stockton for 8yrs. If I wasn’t out chasing the dinos i was fishing hogan, comanche, Melones or Don P. With Melones being my favorite.
I moved from Stockton up to Paradise and lived there until i got burned down. Caught allot of good size stockers out of paradise lake. My daughter got a 6lb’r there one of the kids derbies :-)
They were also stocking eagle lake bows in there.

but Shasta and Almanor is where it’s at

It is pretty up there, the boats get wall to wall in the river during the salmon run. I guess there are different rules for Oregon and Wash because there is a divide between the two halves of the river in the boat concentration.
Edit: Astoria was the town we went through.

Forgot about New Melones and Don Pedro. We’d go to Eagle lake hunting for those huge trophy trout but I myself never landed any, had some hookups but never got them landed. But dam they were fighters .Fished Almanor a few times but used Shasta mainly as a jet ski, and waterski lake, fun lake. Lake Berryessa was my local stomping grounds. It can be very stingy until you “pay your dues” and learn the lake.
