If you look at my post history, you'll see I had my first go with hydroponics about 10 years ago. Started with CFL lights, after that grow I got a MH/HPS Light and did my first SCROG. Then life hit me with an uppercut like a ton of bricks (divorce), I had to give up all my grow equipment, and moved a few states away... Well, life is back on track now, and the state I am in just legalized marijuana, cultivation as well, so I decided to get back into it! Sure, I'm a little early (law changes on July 1st), but I just couldn't hold back...

First step was to build a grow area. I have a 3'x3' grow tent, but the best location to grow in my house wouldn't fit the tent. I converted the area in my basement under the stairs into a grow closet. I was already gutting the room next to the stairs for future renovations, so the stair area was tempting me. I added an electrical outlet, put MDF board up for walls, bought cheap sub-flooring to make a giant door, and lined the walls with reflective mylar. Last part was running ventilation, luckily a friend of mine had all the tools needed and we punched a hole out of my basement for ventilation. You can stand right outside of the grow closet and not smell a thing, you open the door and BAM, nothing but skunk.... It's great! Here's a bunch of pics during the build process...

I'll add another reply so i can upload more pics.

This plant was germinated the day after our November elections, it was a random seed I had in a drawer, unknown genetics, unknown if it's even male or female.

I flipped the light cycle to 12-12 about 6 days ago, so any day now I should be able to tell if it's female.

Nice set up, heh, under the stairs.
What's it smell like outside where the vent ends?

Funny you mention that. I was working outside yesterday hooking up drip irrigation lines and had to spend a decent amount of time near the exit vent for the closet. Either the carbon filter I have is junk, or it already needs to be replaced, because the smell was noticeable. I'm honestly not too worried though, I have a huge backyard so neighbors smelling it isn't an issue. Also, it will be fully legal on July 1, so as long as my house doesn't smell like skunk, I'm happy.

We actually had a family member over the other day, one that isn't too keen on the green. Gave him a tour of the house, walked right past the grow closet (it was 8pm so lights were already off), and he suspected absolutely nothing. I was watching him too, no weird nostril flares or anything like that =)

Oh, if i thought, really believed i could neutralize that smell, i'd try a grow, i think i would.
I just don't trust it, plus, big plus is, i'm crowded in in the 'hood. It wouldn't work. :(
I have a 10,500 foot corner lot. How big is yours?
