You hafta be right the high desert in full bloom will be awesome I'm jealous lol :hump: :bigjoint: :peace:
that area is like really barren. I tried to find picture of it when things are blooming and all I saw were green shrubs.
I have been reading BEST HIKES COLORaDO and getting really excited about exploring up north. I have to get to Rocky Mountain National Park this year. I don't know how I will want to stay overnight. Should I do a tent, or a hotel or a cabin?
When we stayed in Yosemite we stayed in a cabin, a very bare bones cabin with no water or fridge or bathroom. It was alright, we brought a big queen air mattress. Not sure what they have a RMNP. It looks like some of the most popular scenic shorter hikes are at the Estes Park entrance. What time of year should i go? the aspens look sensational in the fall. but the spring runoff could be wicked. Summer could be a blast.

Couple years ago the wife took me to Denver Colorado and it was in June we tried tent camping did not work out so well so if they have the cabin I would go with the cabin

maybe try one more time, better prepared. The land cares not a fig for you. It can be strangely satisfying to encounter nature in its own terms, to learn to love 669BE21D-09E1-43FD-A7B2-772393C0C69D.jpegplaces, as with people, for simply being themselves. It’s the essence of a healthy relationship.
it’s the little bits of life and color in this vast barren landscape I am seeking out.

Made it out to the monument. It was 40 degrees and overcast. There weren’t many vehicles doing the 17 mile loop . Disappointed there weren’t any hiking trails on the 17 mile road. It was all pull overs and snap shots . I really wanted to walk into it…..
then the sunset coming home was brilliant and timing was spot on for this butte that I love.

there is a trail around these mittens but hard to find and didn’t see the beginning until we were leaving . So will have to do it next time. It’s the only hiking trail and it’s right at the beginning of the 17 mile scenic loop drive.

Took this from the car moving… I did not change or manipulate the color at all. The sunset was peaking out in a slit full bright with grey sky line just above it . The it light up all the clouds in purple and pinks opposite this image. I wish I had stayed at the monument for this sunset.

R u gonna paint any of these shots?
Not likely.
Amazing shots, the dusting really provided some contrast and depth.
I can't wait to see more of the high desert.
Moab next weekend and 4 days at Bryce for my bday weekend! My bday is 3/11 and Grand Canyon was already booked except for $360 a night and no way I am paying that. Plus I have been to the GC 3 times and hate crowds. Soooo Bruce Canyon I can get hotels for $44 a night and no crowds. Yes, it will be 40 degrees but I can’t adapt to that . I am sooo excited. Bryce is one of my all time favorite places on earth. It is one of those places that the beautiful is so overwhelming to me the emotions and vibe of the place make me feel so overcome with awe that it’s like I get transported to another dimension. It’s a good feeling.

Something important. These sharp angular monumental rocks have an awe inspiring look at a distance but when super close up to them they become scary and kind of ugly. They have cracks in them and you can see how large chunks will fall off. They could easily kill you . It’s best to keep a distance. How can anyone tell when a large chunk is going to break off?

I stupidly drove over some wet orange sand when I did not need too. That road was a piece of shit. Had nightmares about driving it.
