Just threw away half a bag of Fox Farms Ocean Forest... FUCK FOX FARMS

I've been paying close attention to every time I put in new FFOF soil out of this same bag ..thought I was trippin at first but today after i got my plants watered some roots were exposed ..didn't want to use the soil cuz of my speculations but it's all I had...
2 hours later another fungus gnat infestation and these fuckin things are tiny tiny like they were just born when I put the water on the new soil ..this is the 3rd time and theres no denying it..using Fox Farms Ocean Forest you are playing with a potential bag of pests.
Any other soils you guys use ?
Put DE down on the soils but they were still somewhat wet..Does DE start working again when it dries up?

That's how mine was, it was wet on top where I opened it and had green algae or moss growing in 2 spots.. shoulda threw it out then but I'm the same way don't like to waste ..and damn I just watered today with EWC and did recharge yesterday.. can't really do much right now... Anybody know if fungus gnats go away at night at least ?

From my understanding, the gnats themselves aren't the actual issue - it's the larvae that do the real damage to the roots. You'll need to wipe them out before being too concerned about the adults buzzing around.

Ok cool got a bunch of DE on the soil but some got wet, from my understanding it'll work again when it dries..do they only come up out of soil or can they be born on leaves?

I recommend going to a hydro store(soil bags should be good climate and indoor), not them little store that have a crap ton of plants outside they’re similar to Home Depot stacking soils and all wet from rain cuz they outside. No idea what’s crawling and laying eggs in those bags

I visited my local hydro store for first time yesterday, they don't carry FF and had a weird reaction when I asked if they had it..then told me everyone he knows switched from using it to Nectar of the God's soil or other soils ..and yea this FFOF had big holes in the side and not the normal little holes...had someone who doesn't kno shit about gardening pick it up for me...knew from the start somethin was wrong but after this 3rd time using it and right after seeing little bity fungus gnats again I knew it was the soil.

I think DE even works wet. It's the sharp edges that cut their feet and exoskeletons. I spray it on with a mixture 4 tablespoons to a gallon of water. It was suggested that I add a little dish washing soap to help it stick to the leafs better. I grow outside in the ground so I expect alittle bug damage, but mot much. I spray once a week. It will wash off in a rain and will need to be reapplied.

I just assume all bag soil is going to be loaded with them and treat it as such before I bring it indoors.

Fox farm soil is full of bugs at lest the shit we get here on the east Coast. For the fungus cunts just use Microbe lift bmc 2-3 drops to a gallon of water and use this to water your plants it works good and fast.

I wouldn't toss soil just because it had fungus gnats. Fungus gnats are more annoying than anything and easy to get rid of. You have some good EWC you were saying, and I'm sure it has some good predators in it. Microbe Lift is another option that works good. I'm not a fan of DE, but that's just me.

I let all bagged potting soil dry out in an open container for at least a month or two before using it. This eliminates the fungus gnats before they get inside. Only time I had fungus gnats is when I ran out of soil and used a brand new bag without drying first.

Dude, it's a organic, living soil..... it's supposed to have bugs in it. There's decaying organic matter. It's gonna have bugs, bacteria, and fungus in it. That's how it works.

I live on the east coast and have never gotten an infested bag (knock on wood). I read here or elsewhere that it’s a good idea to test the soil by putting some well moistened soil in a sealed jar with the idea that if there are critters, you’ll see them in the jar after some hours. Testing a new batch of soil this way right now.
