Nothing holy about it. On the bright side there soon won't be enough large blocks of forest to allow fires of this magnitude to proliferate. :(

:peace:
And that's not even hyperbole. Can't even guess what the total area burned is by the end of October.

Holy mother of pearl! I knew this year was the worst on record but over 3X the area burned off since the worst of this century in 2014 is hard to fathom.

And it ain't over yet. :(

Big fires in Siberia etc this year too but not hearing much about those. Losing all this with loss of others and the Amazon our oxygen levels will be going down while CO2 climbs to extinction levels in my lifetime and I'm nearing the end of that at almost 69 years young. I'm a lot more concerned for my 4 grandchildren than I am for myself.

Ramaswamy calls Trump surrender fanfare ‘shameful’

Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy lashed out against the media coverage surrounding former President Trump’s surrender to authorities in Atlanta on Thursday, calling it “shameful,”

“I think this is shameful, Laura,” he said in a Fox News interview with Laura Ingraham on Thursday. “This is an indictment not of Donald Trump, but of our national civic health.”

“That we have gotten to a place where we have a party in power that will use any charge in any jurisdiction — four at the same time — in the middle of an election, designed, mark my words, to stop their lead political rival currently from running,” he continued.

Trump’s surrender, a procedural step in his prosecution in a sprawling election fraud case, received wall-to-wall coverage from cable news networks.
The former president turned himself in at Fulton County Jail in Atlanta and had his mugshot taken. While the Georgia case is his fourth criminal indictment, it is his first mugshot.

Look at the French girls car I saw a lot over the past week:

Ok it’s a quadricycle. It's the Citroën Ami and/or the Opel Rock-Electric depending on where you live. Only $10K. Super quiet. Max speed only 28mph / 45km/h, range 75km… but still, what a cute little thing.

In other words, fatalism is just another excuse not to do what needs to be done
It is, but even then it’s a poor excuse. Even if we’re all going to die a horrible death, it would still makes sense to extend the inevitable. A lot of effort is made to extend the life of individuals guaranteed to die within a few years or months even, so it would make no sense to not act the same way when it comes to billions.

I understand it uses very few molded parts. Front and back are the same part, and the doors are all left doors. Kinda cool.

That's not a real car. That's a speed bump for a real car. ;)

No way I could use one of those around here. My driveway dumps out onto a 2 lane highway with a 100km/h speed limit and nothing but semis and big pickups racing past. I'd need a Mini at least.

The IMF analysis found petrol and other oil products accounted for half of explicit subsidies in 2022, with coal accounting for 30% and fossil gas 20%. The biggest subsidisers of fossil fuels were China, the US, Russia, the EU and India. Coal was particularly heavily subsidised, with 80% of it sold at less than half its true cost.

The analysis calculated that ending fossil fuel subsidies would cut emissions by 34% by 2030 compared with 2019 levels, representing a large chunk of the 43% cut needed to have a good chance of keeping global heating below 1.5C.

They made 50 of this special edition, sold out in 18 minutes so they decided to create 1000 more. They sold over 30K of the standard version already.

Yeah it’s marketed as a city car but is not a real car, and it's not suitable for or even allowed on highways. However, many people in large European cities, especially those living in/near the compact older centers, don’t leave the city very often. A large car is then just a pita to park and drive through busy often narrow streets. Usually 30-50 km/h speed limits in the urban areas so for some it'll do just fine.
