Health Canada recently authorized an updated mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, manufactured by Moderna, thattargets the XBB.1.5 Omicron subvariant circulating now. The federal government is sending the new vaccine out to the provinces and territories, which are in charge of rolling it out to the public.

"I think the timing is going to be good," said Dr. Jeffrey Pernica, head of the division of infectious disease at McMaster University in Hamilton.

"The incidence of COVID-19 has started to creep back up."

WHAT ABOUT THE FLU AND RSV?
In addition to the COVID-19 vaccine, flu shots will be available across the country this fall.

Like the updated COVID shot, the flu vaccine is formulated to be the best possible match for the strains of the virus that are expected to be circulating. Even though some people may still get the flu if they're vaccinated, it still protects against severe illness, doctors say.

It is safe to get both the COVID-19 booster and the flu shot at the same time, the Public Health Agency of Canada said.

Getting both vaccines won't affect their immunological effectiveness, Rasmussen said, noting that health-care providers may give one shot in each arm just to minimize soreness.

Health officials are hoping that the convenience of getting the two shots at the same time will increase uptake of both vaccines.

"I think what we sort of leave out when we think about why people don't get vaccinated is logistics," said Dr. Kumanan Wilson, chief scientific officer at the Bruyere Research Institute in Ottawa and an immunization researcher. "Make access as easy as possible."

Health-care professionals are hoping to avoid the "tripledemic" that overwhelmed hospitals and doctor's offices last fall.

However, there is currently no RSV vaccine available for children, who were hit hard by the virus last year. There is a new RSV vaccine called Arexvy, manufactured by GSK, available this year for adults 60 years of age and older. But it's not yet clear how widely available that will be.

WHEN CAN I GET THE SHOTS?
The exact timing varies between the provinces and territories, but both the flu shot and the updated COVID-19 vaccine are expected to be available in most of the country sometime in October.

Some provinces and territories, including Ontario, Saskatchewan and Northwest Territories, are first vaccinating high-risk populations, including seniors living in long-term care and retirement homes, before making the COVID and flu shots available to the general public.

Doctors and scientists agree that it's especially critical that vulnerable populations like these are prioritized for vaccination.

All those bribes for nothing! You fucked us Dofo! We could have made a killing, but you can't take a little heat over corruption, you need to burn some books and attack the LBGTQ community, create some distractions! Think like an American!

This is really nice to see and I wish more politicians would be willing to be humble and admit when they were wrong. I've been critical of DOFO before, but he deserves credit for finally doing the right thing here. I really believe DOFO is not just in it to benefit himself and his friends; he is head strong in his beliefs but he does actually believe that his actions would be the most benefit to everyone in the province, albeit benefitting people he rubs elbows with at the same time.

While I don't agree with many of his policies, I commend him for admitting this was a mistake and changing course.

If his brother Rob was still alive and mayor of TO then nobody would have noticed this green belt shit! Now there was a distraction rivaling Trump and I think Donald took inspiration from RoFo, who kinda pioneered the populist clown politician with personal issues. He shocked a lot of Americans, until Donald came along, we launched a sputnik with Rob and the Americans responded by going to the moon with Trump!

Canada leaves the US in a pinch? Like the US leaving Canada in a pinch in having Canada "holding" the cell phone heirs (Meng Wanzhou) for three years?
Canada’s explosive claims against India put US in a pinch

The west will stand together on this, we can't have them murdering dissidents on our soil and that goes for America, the UK the EU and a host of other nations. It is as much a violation of international law as Putin's invasion of Ukraine which is also illegal. India is in the pinch, not us. It's moderate their behavior or pay a price with the west and the west can do as much for India as it did for China and is looking for new trade partners and low-cost labor markets. We also do a lot of digital business with India, call centers, back-office accounting, even radiology as x-rays are sent there to be read and that business can be harmed too. The faster they stop behaving like criminals, the faster it gets resolved.

If Trudeau can not show evidence then it is Canada in a hot spot. And the others in 5 eyes are not stepping up to back us up.

On the ocean?
I’d imagine Kawawachikamach gets that cold on the regular. Boston has had temps below that mark. I remember a winter in DC when it hit seventeen below F, which is like -27°C. Maritime influence retreats before a brisk wind from the northwest.

Goose bay is colder than a witch's tit in the winter, but most of the people live on Newfoundland Island and relatively few live in Labrador, mostly natives. So, if the concern is energy use and say using heat pumps, then relatively few should be affected. Labrador is at the same latitude as the UK, but with a much colder climate. Where I live in northern NS at 46 degrees north is about the same latitude as central France. If the gulf stream came just a bit further north before going across the Atlantic to warm northern Europe, we would have a subtropical climate here and palm trees growing like in southern Ireland which is much further north and way across the cold north Atlantic.

The graph treats only of temperatures. Neither population density nor energy use figure in.

Per Wiki, the Goose Bay average lows for Jan and Feb are below the -20 mark. Maybe the chart has nuances I don’t understand.

If people don't live there, it generally doesn't count! Inland it is colder in winter and warmer in summer, near the coast the sea moderates the climate, even in Labrador where most people live, on the coast. Goose bay is inland and the home of a military base, a legacy of the cold war and other than mining and hydro power, that's about it for the interior of Labrador.
