i just got the mars hydro fce6500 and 2 of the fce8000 also got the add on uv and ir bars but not sure when or if i should use the uv and ir any advice?
the mars hydro UV / IR uses UVA right? if it has no UVB or UVC i would use the UV lights the entire time your lights are on. some people will say keep it on only 2 hours a day or somecrap but thats if your using UVB / UVC not UVA.

Some people use uvb during late flowering to beef up trichrome output.
i am one of those people i use around 4watts per sq ft of UVB/UVA and little tiny amounts of UVC. dr.bruce bugbee from apogee did a youtube video with shane from migro and bugbee said that UVA does not increase cannabinoid production.

I installed the same UV/IR bars this week. Without a separate timer for UV and IR, It will be difficult to program a timer for these bars for both light spectrums. I’m using the IR function in veg and planning to use the UV function in flower. Mars Hydro recommended frequency and duration is as follows (quotes from their website)

per Mars Hydro…..
UV: we recommend providing your plants with 1 hour of supplemental UV light per day in the mid-to-late vegetative stages.
UV: we also recommend providing 60 to 90 minutes of supplemental UV light in the early flowering stages and 90-120 minutes in the mid-flowering stage.

IR:
As for the effective use of supplemental IR light, we recommend providing your plants with IR light for a 30-minute time frame before you turn the lights off for the day. 30 minutes before the lights are scheduled to be turned off we recommend providing your plants with 10 minutes of IR light, then, turn off the IR lights for the next 10 minutes. Finally, turn the lights back on for a final 10 minutes of supplemental IR light. (10 – on, 10 – off, 10- on). After all the lights have been turned off, the plants can sleep. This use of IR light can be applied to all stages of plant growth, except the germination stage.

Besides, to use the IR more effectively to awaken and hypnotize the plants, we recommend you turn on the IR for 15 minutes before your main lights are on and after the main lights are off every day (15m IR - main full spectrum lights - 15m IR). This is proven to be highly effective for plant growth because they wake up before light in so they absorb the fed light efficiently and enter the sleep period for biomass accumulation quickly.
