You can break them up, but it’s not necessary. No you do not need to dry it if you run it more than once .( if that’s what you’re asking).

You should break them up as there’s trichomes all through the bud, not just the outside.
And No you dont have to dry them before washing them.

Are you using a bubble machine? If so then no need to break up any buds..... Just enough so there's no big stems and whatnot in there and they fit into the machine. Check out Frenchy Cannoli he was a hash legend. Watch the instructional videos.

I found this about breaking up buds before making bubble hash and this guy explains it's not a good idea due to half spheres trichs in the middle worth nothing, but isn't this how rosin is made ? with all the trichomes including the inner ones ?
I'm on the fence until i see a test for this one

Trichomes are what you are after, any kind of molestation or mutilation is just going to break them up. You'll be collecting little broken half spheres lacking any of the delicious oil inside. You end up with weak sand that doesnt stick together and isnt even as potent as the bud you started with.The less you handle it, the more whole trichomes you will have to stick together.
You dont even need a screen with fresh untrimmed buds, simply fill a bucket with ice water, take the whole cola on the stem and dunk it in there. Dunk and pull rapidly for about 10 seconds and check out the situation on the bud. Your looking to see if you've lost trichomes from the surface. Repeat until satisfied with trichomeless buds. Let dry and turn whats left into alcohol extracted hash oil. "

^^ stalked trichs produce the most oils, this means the others still produce good oil just not as much.
I'd be testing this, pretty sure you'll get more yield, but some say "it's not the yield that's important it's the quality"

With my last batch (fresh frozen, no drying) it wasn't feasible to bust up the bud by hand, so I broke it up in ice water using a paint mixer & and hand drill.
IMO, draining & drying the bubble hash itself is the most tedious/difficult part

The more you break up dry buds the more plant contaminants you will have in your hash, and you'll be molesting the trichomes. You need to decide if you are going for quality or quantity. Once you soak the buds for 25mins or so and run them they will break up by themselves.
