Whats wrong with S1?

Hi all,

My second attempt to grow from seed. The small one is called S1 , and the healthy one is S2. S1 was buried a week before S2 and yet S2 is undoubtedly much bigger now. It seems that S1 is stuck and stopped growing at some point. Any ideas why? I watered both the same amount, gave very little nutrients to both, they are roommates in the tent under the same light. What am i missing here? Any help appreciated. Thanks

One is more vigorous than the other.

The roots are probably more well developed, so it takes up water faster, while the other one is probably slightly over watered.

Seedlings are very delicate, and extra sensitive to any problems that may happen early. It’s likely that something as simple as overwatering the one plant could have damaged the roots and stalled it. Also, seeds are each genetically unique, even from the same parents. What one plant is sensitive to, might be ok for another.

My two cents for what ever it is worth.
Think it is to early to feed them my understanding is they should pull what they need from the medium.
How long have they been growing?
I popped 5 seeds and only four germinated and they are progressing in order of germination.
But I suspect in the next week they will all look about the same. I am shocked at the growth rate.
I had one that the seed case stayed on for two days till I helped remove it, it was kind of sluggish for a few days but seems to have come around.
Noticing that two of the plants get hit with circulation fan more that other two, I will change this with an other fan in different location.
So very possible that seed has issues not all seeds will come up the same way.
Other thought the position in tent is not a happy place for plant, I see my plants with slightly different growth. The two plants near the air intake are slightly bigger.
I have been waiting for the Vivosun logging thermometer have two on order which will give me a better picture of what is going on.

Hello, thank you for the reply. S1 is a little over a month and S2 is a month old. I think they both should be much bigger by now but at least S2 looking strong and healthy whereas S1 looks like a dwarf and sickly:(

I think you should consider starting future seeds out in 4" pots or Solo cups. MUCH easier to get proper watering technique down in small containers. What grow medium are you using? Go into some detail about your specific watering habits. Also, exactly which grow light are you using, and how high is it hung above them?

Hi ! Thanks for the reply. I actually have started them in solo cups the pictures are after i replanted them in their final pots.

Soil.. Watering once in 2-3 days whenever i see the soil dried up. 120w light in a 2*2 tent it's hung about 38 inches high. When they were in solo cups they were under a 10w aquarium light pretty close to them.

Now that i think about it i might have accidentally over watered S1 about a week ago but i am not sure if it's enough to cause this much damage go figure

What kind of soil? How much water do you give them at a time? I doubt lighting is a huge problem, but for a light that relatively weak 38" may be a little high. My 315watt CMH is maybe 30" above my week old seedlings right now and they're happy. Overwatering isn't really a one-time thing. Knowing next to nothing about many of your specifics, my kneejerk guess would actually be underwatering.
