NY Judge in Trump Case Had 'Insane' Conflict of Interest
Donald Trump’s legal team will reportedly use an “insane” and previously unknown “conflict of interest” between E. Jean Carroll’s lawyer and the judge in her defamation case against the former president as part of a move to toss a whopping $83.3 million jury verdict.

Business commentator Charles Gasparino wrote in the New York Post that Alina Habba — an attorney for the former president — said she was unaware until Saturday that Manhattan federal Judge Lewis Kaplan and Carroll’s lawyer Roberta Kaplan worked together in the early 1990s at the same law firm.

Gasparino wrote it was an unnamed source who told him the judge was once Roberta Kaplan’s “mentor.”

“It was never disclosed. It’s insane and so incestuous,” Habba told Gasparino, insisting neither Lewis Kaplan, 79, nor Roberta Kaplan, 57 — no relation to the judge — disclosed the “conflict of interest” and violation of judicial ethics rules.

Roberta Kaplan worked at Paul, Weiss Rifkin, Wharton & Garrison in Manhattan from 1992 to 2016, then left to become a founding partner of Kaplan Hecker & Fink, her LinkedIn page shows.

“This is news to us,” Haba told Gasparino. “We are going to include this in our appeal and take appropriate measures. The fact it wasn’t disclosed is an ethics violation.”

According to the Post, Roberta Kaplan, during her early years at Paul Weiss, worked as an associate of the firm at the same time as Judge Kaplan, a partner until 1994, was appointed to the federal bench by then-President Bill Clinton.

Zak Sawyer, a rep for Roberta Kaplan, denied any conflict of interests, Gasparino wrote.

“They overlapped for less than two years in the early 1990s at a large law firm when he was a senior partner and she was a junior associate and she never worked for him,” Sawyer told Gasparino.

An ex-Paul Weiss partner, whom Gasparino did not name, said Roberta Kaplan did her best to distinguish herself before the partners, including Lewis Kaplan.
“Lew was like her mentor,” the former partner claimed, Gasparino wrote.

Neither Judge Kaplan nor a rep for Paul Weiss returned calls for comment, he added.

Trump was previously ordered to pay Carroll $5 million in May after a jury found him liable for abusing her inside a Bergdorf Goodman fitting room in 1996.

On Friday, Judge Kaplan presided over the jury award of an $83.3 million to Carroll in Manhattan federal court, after the panel found Trump liable for slandering Carroll in 2019 when he dismissed her sexual assault claims as a “hoax” and called her a “whack job.”

Trump has said he’ll appeal both decisions.

Habba-dabba-do and the rest probably know they have no hope of winning an appeal, but it's just a typical Trump move to make it "appear" shady, to get magats frothing at the mouth. The whole Joe/Hunter Biden investigation that Trump was trying to blackmail Zelensky for was all about just making it look as though Joe was corrupt.

It’s a basic tactic of crooks to decry the legitimate effort to clean up their crimes as crooked.

Now that we have partisan propaganda outlets posing as news services, the crooks are doing deep and lasting damage.

Can Trump get his donors to pay $83.3 million awarded to E. Jean Carroll?

MSNBC's Ali Velshi is joined by Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times Investigative Reporter Susanne Craig to discuss what it means for Donald Trump that a jury has ordered him to play E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million after he was found liable for sexual abuse and defamation.

The Ukrainians caught them, it was the Russian influence over all those years, it takes time to clean up an entire society, but they have the motivation and leadership to do it. I mean they saw what corruption did for the Russians, made them easy to beat and that is how you really measure corruption, on the battlefield.

It will take the republican party a long time to remove Trump's shit stain with future generations of new voters too, the party has been poisoned by bigots and fools. The kids saw the truth on TV with their own eyes on J6 and are not nearly as conditioned as adults and can easily absorb new lessons. Even children can see through Trump's lies when many adults who are blinded by conditioning and fear can't, and I'm sure they wonder about it.

So Quid pro quo joe was on tape talking about how he was gonna hold tax payer money ( only a billion)if they don’t fire a guy who was investigating corruption, let’s not forget how his little boy hunter is on the energy board of directors. This is my last post here on this thread, I don’t want politics ruining a good time.

Not even MAD magazine or the Onion could have come up with the present scenario, it literally staggers the imagination.
Man,What would the WW2, "greatest generation", of stand up,can do people think of all this chaos/influence/drama/crisis created by this individual whose flaws know no limits, and currently holds no elected office or actual authority?? Is Vince McMahon gearing up to break into politics next?? Is this the new norm?, one of travelling circus's led by unqualified villains w/name recognition exploiting the social misinfo. machine w/AI deep fakes and a posse of psycophants running on "alternative facts" to throw in for high office in this country. I'd really like to see the reaction of all those souls who left us 20-25 yrs ago to today's political environment.
