I like this solution! Not only do you get the radiant heat, the lower temperatures actually work in your favor.

I'm a massive fan of LEDs , but HPS does seem like the logical solution at the moment.

Appreciate the help here. I like that saran wrap idea! I looked into heating methods (the ac infinity heater looks cool and it works with their controller) but the consensus was to switch to hps lights as mentioned.

Since spring is here I'll consider for next winter. Any models hps light you guys recommend?

I also just bought an adjustable height 2x4 table and put the plants up as high as possible and his helped a bit too.

True. I upgraded end of last year to a Photontek 200w in my 2x2.5x7 tent. My plants love this light. Really even light coverage, doesn't get too hot, and I have it close enough to my plant to give it around 600-750 ppfd. I have to heat the tent a bit in winter, but I prefer this over the first hps lamp I used.

It really comes down to expense. I run a hot pepper business so I have two 4-ft fluorescent fixtures going in one room, a Mars Hydro sp3000 in the auto tent and a viper Spectra xs1500 pro in the photo tent, which I will be adding one more to.

The HPS light sounds like the only viable solution to keep electric costs down. It's crazy expensive here on Long Island.

The summer months are obviously ideal for growing indoors, I consider the winter my off-season where I can experiment. Whatever grows is a win for me.

It seems I spent most of my life researching LED lights, I like coco for cannabis recommendations. I know nothing about HPS so I'll need to read up a bit. Again, an expense consideration for next spring.

600w will be good for 1m x 1m or 4x4ft at a stretch.

There's more , double ended hps.
CMH too, which are 315w and 630w. But mire expensive to purchase.

HPS are dirt cheap to buy and there's the second hand market too.

Hps are tried and true but the down side is you will loose some verticle height which is crucial in a basement and you can't grow right up on them like Leds unless you get cool tunes with sealed glass and extractors on the hoods them selves.. even then the glass gets kinda hot .. there's a learning curve if you've never used hps
