What makes a strain pest resistant?

I've been looking around, tired of pests, trying to find strains that are "pest-resistant" - Some claim it's due to the limonene terpene, that scares away insects.

But every list I find is different, I'm sure that more or less every strain is "pest-resistant" at this point, which means none are.

Or am I just not understanding properly? What makes a pest-resistant strain?

From my understanding, plants that are grown and bred under certain pressures (environment, disease, pests, etc...) start showing defenses/resistance to those pressures as early as the first generation of offspring. This obviously varies by the plant and the pressure, but I would assume that the plants that are sold as resistant would apply 99% to the specific region and conditions it was grown and produced in. I would take any of these claims lightly and know that they may not translate 1:1 if you are in a different area or have a different type of pest. That said, it's pretty cool that people can steer that in a certain direction and that plants are so dang fast to evolve.

One that if it does get eaten a bit takes it in its stride providing you dont let it get outta control theres no strain thats 100% pest resistant ime some plants are favoured by pests more than others plus if something gets hit long enough by the same pests and doesnt get wiped out it adapts somewhat if its bred long enough at the same spot but like i said nothings 100% without help and management

There is definitely something to be said for planting garlic and pot marigolds as well round about your plants for sure the pot marigolds root secretions help repel the bad kind of nematodes
