Yeah, it's the old versatile 555 timer with an emitter follower to boost the current to the IR LED. The potentiometer is used to vary the frequency of the IR pulse - around 15Hz ought to work to change the light from several hundred yards away.

Just don't use the circuit where there are cameras - the IR pulse will clearly show up on the traffic camera.
NPN transistors in a common base configuration... I used to know that stuff, and Boolean logic equations.

Boolean algebra! That's quite some time ago. I knew electronics was my passion at a young age. Delivering newspaper before school started in grade three afforded candies, gum, chips, etc. Bazooka gum iirc had cartoons in them and you could order things too. I received these space phones by sending in some comics and a few cents.

I'm gonna build me an ark. 60 cubits or so. We got another 3/4 inches of rain last night.
Erroneous headline.

I'm amazed you still have those! I always wanted the real submarine in the comic book ads.

Two hours of driving, 30 mins of chitchat with the old man, $1k later…we are boat owners! 1976 Rhodes Bantam, sails still crispy. I’m going to try to convince him to take it out tomorrow. Wish me luck! Never sailed a day in my life and while napping after we got home, I had my first nightmare that I tipped the boat and the entire mast sunk to the bottom of the lake.

Congrats on the new boat. I grew up playing on small sailboats like Sunfish and we had friends with a 60 footer that we took out every summer. Get quality life jackets, flares and have fun. My dad always said our sailboat was a teak lined hole into which you poured money lol.

I’m sure! We stopped at Bass Pro on the way home and dropped another $200.
