Question about trimming

Hi,
I have a 4' tall by 4' wide bush that was planted outside end of may that has 7 main stems but it is starting to get new branches off the bigger main ones.

Should I cut them off so the main stems only produce bud?
Or should I leave these to grow and just trim leaves off for air flow?

I am pretty sure to many branches will cause sparse bud growth but that's a research guess, not actual experience.
First time ever getting a plant this size so I'm asking as I go. I think harvest is october around there in my part of mid Ohio. Don't want to stunt the bud growth because you have to be close.
Plan to put tarp over it when it starts at night to prevent light here and rot from rain at night. Then remove it and Im putting up a clear plastic piece over it on wires that i can retract to keep the rain off through the rainy day but still allow air flow
Thank you.

It's not necessary to trim outdoor plants. Those lowers can make or break a harvest. If you have the wet weather you are expecting during late flower it could ruin big single colas. Those ozs of lowers would look more appealing if that were to happen. Good Luck!
Thank you and makes a lot of sense and I think I'll quit picking off huge fan leaves as well then and let them act as rain shields.

Some stuff is more scrappy than others it's partly how much light it gets and partly genetic some stuff is better than others all the way down
