happy wednesday, friends! here's my weekly/semi-monthly check-in 
in pictures, of course.
lady #1, the biggest of the three
lady #2, she's shorter and wider than #1
lady #3
they're all about 6ft tall right now. i think they may be trying to flower finally. a friend who started seeds the same week i did said his started flower this week, and he's in the same zone as me. here's to hoping!
last wednesday we took the boat out for a lovely sail on a local lake. we were cruising along for a good hour; i was manning the tiller and the old man was on jib and mainsail duty. he was hanging over the side, we were laughing and having a great time. a gust of wind came out of nowhere and then this happened...
that's us, trying to pull the boat over with no keel to stand on as it retracted when it all went upside down. we don't have a mast float and from the time the boat blew over until it was completely turtled was less than 10 seconds. we were about 1/2 mile from shore, and from the photo above you can see how unoccupied the lake was that day LOL we spent about 15 minutes trying to turn it, treading water, when a pontoon came by to see what was going on. honestly if that boat hadn't have come by, we were about ready to just swim back because there was zero chance of us being able to turn the boat upright.
thankfully the pontoon was able to help us; we tied a rope between the boats and after about four tries and a solid hour, we got the girl upright, bailed out all the water, took down the sails, and had the pontoon pull us back to the boat ramp. it was a very quiet ride back
it's hot AF here but we're getting a fair amount of rain every few days so that helps. i'm sad that summer is just cruising by and it seems that there's still so much that i want to do before the cold temps come back.

i'm surprised it took us this long LOL what we didn't count on happening was the whole thing flipping. i think we both assumed that it would just lay on it's side as most masts have foam in them. ours doesn't. we're getting a mast float before we take it back out.

Definitely a great lesson. When we learned to sail in scouts, the first day we went in shallow water and dumped the sunfish where we could just barely touch to practice getting it upright. Once that was figured out, we went to the middle of the lake and did it. One time when a buddy and I checked one out during free time, we decided to practice capsizing and uprighting it. It was fun times when it turtled and we were in the perfect depth water for the mast to bury the top foot or two in the bottom of the lake. Today's our 26th wedding anniversary and she still hasn't smothered me in my sleep.....yet. I will start harvesting the first plants from the all purple autoflower grow this weekend.
