The most notable historical parallel is a 1916 panel that spent months reviewing more than 2,500 medals awarded during the Civil War and ultimately rescinded 911 awards. After the destroyer I was on got back from WESTPAC, we were charged with putting to sea to destroy the results of a big drug sweep of the base at Pearl Harbor

So there I was, standing on the fantail as the Chief Master of Arms was throwing all kinds of drugs overboard- pills, acid, big bags of weed, all kinds of stuff while me and my stoner shipmates watched in silence

then he grabbed these bricks wrapped in newspaper and unwrapped them revealing the most beautiful thai sticks we had ever seen and when he threw them overboard there was a giant groan

Being in the CG we had the biggest bust of Coke for any ship at that time & mind you it was not cut - pure crystal. After weighing it, all was dumped over the side except for one bale for evidence. Twas heart breaking to say the least.
