Material preparation
Waterproof LED light strip: Choose a waterproof RGB LED light strip suitable for aquarium environment, IP67 rating.

Power adapter: Choose a suitable power adapter (12V) according to the power of the LED light strip.

Controller: Choose an LED controller with a remote control to adjust the lighting effect.

Aluminum heat sink: Helps the LED light strip dissipate heat and prolongs its service life.

LED light strip mounting clamp: Used to fix the light strip.

Tools such as scissors and screwdrivers.

Step 1: Measure
First, measure the size of the fish tank to determine the length of the LED light strip to be installed. If your fish tank is large, you can consider installing the light strip in multiple locations to ensure uniform lighting. Then, calculate the power of the power adapter required based on the length and power of the light strip.

Step 2: Cut and prepare the light strip
Cut the LED light strip to the appropriate length according to the size of the fish tank. Most LED light strips have a mark every few centimeters, and can be safely cut at these marks. Make sure the light strip is still waterproof after cutting, and seal the cut with silicone if necessary.

Step 3: Install the LED light strip
Use the LED light strip mounting clip to fix the light strip to the top of the fish tank or under the cover. If using an aluminum heat sink, stick the light strip to the heat sink first, and then fix the heat sink to the top of the fish tank. Make sure the light strip is evenly distributed to avoid dead spots.

Step 4: Connect the power supply and controller
Connect the LED light strip to the controller, and then connect the controller to the power adapter. Make sure all connections are secure and waterproof. Connect the power adapter to the power outlet to ensure that the controller works properly.

Step 5: Test and adjust
Turn on the power and use the remote control to test the lighting effect. Adjust the brightness and color of the light according to your needs to create an ideal aquarium environment. You can choose different lighting modes, such as using cool white light to simulate natural light during the day and using blue light to create a deep sea atmosphere at night.

Step 6: Safety check
Make sure all electrical connections are in a safe state, especially when used in an environment with high humidity. Check the power adapter and controller regularly to ensure that they do not overheat.

With the above steps, you can easily DIY an LED lighting system suitable for fish tanks. Not only can it display the beautiful landscape in your fish tank, but it can also provide the necessary lighting conditions for aquatic plants and help them grow healthily.

Can we follow this up with a new strain that grows under water? That or maybe move the thread to an aquaponics thread. Seriously, if you want to do a diy thread pictures are more important than anything else, a list of basic steps can be found anywhere. How about putting in some effort and find links to the best priced products that you have actually tried and have first hand knowledge of.
