I've been smoking since 16 and I don't recall ever tasting terps. Westcoast outdoor, Midwest indoor, doesn't matter. When I come back after a t break of 2 or more weeks, I get that beginner flavor, but since switching to vaporizers a few months ago, I don't even get that. It all tastes more or less the same. I can tell there are underlying notes, but for as long as I can remember it's all pretty much the same. Some smoke is heavier, some is lighter, but flavor? I just dont get it.

I know there's something there, I don't believe everyone claiming to taste weed is lying to me. Hell, my partner (who hasn't smoked regularly in over a decade prior to our relationship) told me that she couldn't stand the Chem fuego because it tasted like butthole after smoking/vaping Blueberry Muffin for the last few months.

I have smoked tobacco, but it was about 6 months when I was 19, so I don't think that's it. Maybe I just dont have the pallet, idk.

I'm curious what everyones experience is. Do you have a pallet for cannabis or are you in my boat?

I only taste really prominent terps like lime or orange and especially in wax like superboof is crazy tropical orange. Had a headbanger with a real sour tongue coating and a random red diesel from barneys way back. But yeah usually just tastes like earthy funk or hash

I know I've had that "mouth coat" but it's been so long, I hardly remember it. I got a ton of chem crosses along with a sour d and chem 91 clone that I look forward to dialing in just to see if any of it can remind me what the heck a "mouth coating" smoke is.

It's the result of shitty weed breeding over the last several decades. Young people never had good weed so they have no idea what good weed even is/was. Older people, on the other hand, DO know what good weed is/was.

Yes, I can taste terps in modern weed, but it's VERY slight in comparison to the old school weed. The skunk is gone forever. It seems real Thai weed is gone forever. What remains is the generic "lemon" "pine" "gas" stuff -at best.

The only thing that remains is the ritual of smoking it.

Man, I just dont know if that's true. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of hype out there, but you have people like AKBB, Ace, real seed co, Tom Hill, Madmac, Hempy, Authentic Genetics, and even Bohdi who have the old school/land of origin funk and havent really dicked with making hype weed out of it. Only reason Snowhigh isn't on that list is because he's disappeared and whoever is filling his orders seems to be struggling.

I wasn't alive when the old school was in session, so I can't say you're wrong about flavor, but I respectfully disagree with the premise that old school weed is extinct.

I can only notice distinct flavors if I use a clean glass pipe.
I am going down the old school route with a couple of strains each growing season. But in the day everything had seeds.

In the last two days I tested early cutting of AK47 and farmers daughter both had different highs and taste and were smooth. If my impression of old school proves true I expect Panama Red to be harsh.

Each weed has a different flavor to me when smoked and vaped. When I vape it at low temps is when I can taste a lot of the terpenes. I fully made the switch to vaping about 6 years ago and never looked back. Saves me money and I love the taste.

Currently I have some BooBerry cookies by ethos genetics and it's some strong berry flavors. I like ethos for their flavors. I've had XXX and it was one of the most unique flavors I've ever had. I don't go for super high THC weeds and I keep my tolerance low enough to get blasted.

ive noticed that cold drying and cureing brings a lot of the terps out, and good drying and cureing is parampunt for good tasting weed, not many know how or can be bothered to spend the time on it, its all money money money as fast as possable these days. thats why home grown if you can

I'm pretty good at tasting and smelling cannabis like I can blind taste test bluecheese in a bunch of bluecheese hybrids and pick it out for an example but the thing is idk how it's stayed so sharp over the years I smoke I don't do tolerance breaks I've had COVID in the past that dulled it temporarily but then my senses returned to pretty much what they once were honestly I guess it's luck and genetics some people can't taste or smell all that good others are more sensitive to it your right about the vapes though I find Vs a joint it's more samey tasting than other methods I only really mess with the volcano vape sometimes mind you I do mainly smoke joints for that reason I like tasting it as much as getting baked

Peanut butter, chocolate, pineapple, I come across strains that claim a taste I just dont taste. I never tasted apples from apple fritter. My watermelon ultra has no watermelon in it but could be I didnt pheno bean hunt.

Peppercorn, gas, skunky, minty. I am dabs only it will be 2 yrs in no time so I had to really think. Typically I agree with what a website that is meant to describe strains like leafly or all bud list goes on. Zkittles tastes like skittles.

It's more like apple baked goods type thing I get a lil off it Vs proper apple candy type stuff I agree though not everything tastes like it's named if you want a apple type the old GHS big bang had plenty of sour green apple candy types x18 has some in the line too

I get the flavor mostly with a low heat vape... Some varieties are easy on a flame smoke, but overall vaping is much easier to define taste with... Generic blends are to blame too... Almost all of the more commercial strains are derived from the same old skunk 1, nl, haze, ww, euro blendings, and the us OG, chem, maybe blueberry and skunk stuff, so it probably makes sense a bunch of it all tastes alike... Because most of it is all alike... I actually think the way to hone your taste is to smoke more, not less, but do like you are testing a strain... Smoke the same thing for days, then switch it up, no blending, and then come back and smoke again for days... You start "knowing" it better with repetition and trying to make notes of what you're tasting and smelling and feeling... At least that's how I do it... One smoke of something is almost impossible to really taste it... You gotta do it multiple times... As for lemon, pine, gas, I'm loving this blend I'm huffing right now, which is a blend of 3 different OGs, 2 Chems, Afghani and some NL5... It is mouth coating... Flavor is deep dark, wet, misty spruce forest, only instead of water, it's drenched in gasoline and kerosene, with the lemon pine sol only being slightly there in the back... Enough to know it's there, but it doesn't take away from the sopping wet, mentholated, petrolium distillate forest. That's another thing, only try to discern while actively smoking... It's the only way to accurately make note of it... sometimes i'll taste something while smoking, then completely forget about it, then I'll smoke again and go, "oh yeah, there it is, I remember that now"... I don't know, that's how I do it at least...

Interesting theories here. I could see smoking more making taste more pronounced, at least for some people. I look forward to the days when I can smoke like that again to test that theory with the varieties going around my inner circle (including my garden.)

I've been privileged in having access to quality weed (relative term, not saying it was the best) almost the entire time I've been smoking. I fell into very good connections very quickly. All of that is to say, I've got a pretty huge sample size, and I don't *remember* any flavors. I remember cutting open vaccusealed bags and taking a whiff of something that smelled so strongly of lemon pledge it could clear my sinuses, but never have I taken note of a taste. At least not one I can remember, which might be the key term, because I've got poor short term memory.

My feeling is that if the old school weed, that I speak of, actually was around to this day, then everyone would be smoking it. I have been looking and looking and reading all kinds of reviews and descriptions. I've taken the bait and tried a few of the so-called real thing.....none of it was even close to what I remember from the old days. Selling seeds is big money and anyone can claim to have the real thing, whether they are telling the truth or not. Who would know other than some other old school people? And there are fewer and fewer of us left. I feel fortunate to have been able to be a part of what I feel is the best era of marijuana. If we could have only carried it long enough to have made it to the present day, when the technology to grow it better exists. I'm still searching for something that rings of the old days....just haven't found it yet.
