Dehydrator VS Jars for curing

I've always used a homemade dehydrator which is basically a cabinet where I can both hang and lay flowers on racks with a caressing gentle breeze washing over them in pitch black darkness.

I recently seen somebody put the flowers right into jars and then burp them once a day, for me that's a recipe for mold. You?

But if it's a better cure, I want to do what's best, especially for taste and effect.

Pic: I'm about 30 days from harvest. They've literally stopped growing vertically and now just filling out, pretty cool :weed:

Normally you let them dry down to about 70% rh, then do the jar and burp. With just harvested buds, I can definitely see mold being a major issue! Curing continues until the RH drops below about 55%. I don't see any advantage to jarring very wet buds.

Things are lookin pretty good.. I let my buds dry to 62% before they go in jars,, Any wetter and they mold..
My first cure molded, I think I even left the jars uncovered; that was before I made my dehydrator cabinet, anyway I washed them in hydrogen peroxide.

It's going to be hard keeping those three strains separated until they're ready for jars.

How do YOU test bud hydration?

I put a mini hygrometer in the jar, seal it up and check it in the morning. Above 62% I open the jar for a couple hours, then seal, wait, and check again. Keeping it until it settles at 56-62%.

I hang dry the limbs in my tent and then place the buds in paper grocery bags with hygrometers to cure for a few days before transferring them into jars. The bags are much more forgiving; you can roll down the top to close them and give them a shake every day to keep moisture levels even.

this^^ Brown bagging it is very forgiving and slows things down, but not to a stop like jars

drying and curing methods differ alot based on your climate. The person hanging in the closet for 2-4 weeks without worry probably doesn't have a very dry climate. The person who has a very dry climate has tried things to slow down the dry and experienced mold. I build one of the Koolatron DIY peltier type bud driers and it is pretty cool for peace of mind. about 200$ and some DIY and I'm happy with the investment even though I don't grow that much anymore. Where I live (coastal new England) has some really weird seasons that aren't great for growing. We also get very humid parts of the year like 70-80%

My room is at 40% during flower. What's yours before harvest?

I think I'll do the paper bag and also the dehydrator without the fan.
