The UK Growers Thread!

i havn't been carp fishing for fucking years, there was an old canal at the bottom of the wreck (play ground). there was a guy calledjohn tovey, he was a keen fisherman, and stocked it up with fish, notablely 2 golden orff, huge ones too, but they stocked it up with carp and loads of rudd n roach and all mannor of fish, it was a lovely spot to fish too, loads of good runs. anyway, there was a corner of this canal that had a huge carp living in it. can't remember the weight, but my mate braught it home on 2 1/2 pound breaking strain line, took him 2 hours almost, great stuff
I use to chase them on the river wye which ain’t a million miles from you mate , some very special fish in the wye , they got in there in the 80s when the river used to to flood the near by lakes , have had carp upto 30lb off the wye , unfortunately I can’t do the leg work any more (sighing face )

Yeah that’s have the battle is getting through the big tench and bream which both go to over 15lb , locals call the pit jurassic Park nothing is small in there pike go to over 30lb ……
wasn't sure wether to gasp or laugh, jurassic park, thats cool. right how many rods can you legaly use at one time? id like yto catch one of those bream or tench

Three rods on the pit mate , is on a dead man’s syndicate so basically a new place comes available when a member passes , took me 15yrs to get on …..
Thats crazy I thought it was only good salmon beats that have a waiting list so good carp beats do too? It's something I've only ever caught by accident fishing for pike cos it's usually trout n salmon n that I go after more so so the opposite of you guys I take a back pack a rod and some doobies and that's me it's too over grown up here to carry loads lol

There's a old sand quarry near me filled with water that's free no one bothers there arse locals threw pike roach bream n tench etc in some carp too then in the nature reserve pond across the way from it folk flung some big grass carp and the like in too not so many people know about the second spot having fish in tho so it's not so bad but idk I just prefer rivers tbh

wow, thats a crazy wait. congrats on getting one.
Cheers it was a bitter/ sweet scenario as a few members pasted during the pandemic, which enabled my place , I always raise my first Guinness and pour a bit in the water as a mark of respect.

yeah mate , carp fishing is a funny old game plenty of lakes that are easy to get on with big fat fish that are 10yrs old and been fed pellets there entire life would rather stop carping than fish for those kinda fish , proper old school heritage carp that have been left to fend for themselves for decades are as rare as rocking horse shit these days unfortunately
