Of course surface area is a major factor for photosynthesis, but these things are tough and adaptable.. Remember plants have localized response to stimuli including light.. Its actually possible to start a single branch flowering..
Your canopy will be ever evolving, and at all times you'll want to make sure buds are getting light 'by any means necessary'..
Obviously the main purpose of fan leaves is less localized, so removing some and leaving many won't be as detrimental to the bud as itself not getting light..
Its not that much different in veg.. I'm sure you have a few favorite branches that you have high hopes for.. If something weak and spindly stretched into the path of light getting to the nice one I'm sure you'd chop it..
Unless you're training the plants into specific format from very early on, (like experienced sog/scroggers) what you should do (and when) becomes really obvious as long as you remember the buds (and vigorous budsites in veg) are the only things worth caring about..

So, during flower i want to try and keep an even ratio on leaves to buds, and let the buds themselves get good light too. My plant #3 is so damn bushy, but don't know wether to trim or not, cuz i can't see the sex yet!!!
Anyway, thanks man!!:weed:

Here is the close ups on #2(Lucy2):leaf: Pics 1-4

Pics 5-8 show a problem I'm having on plant #3(oasis). It is only on a few leaves, and not every leaf on the fan set is damaged, but it is weird looking.

well..... not too bad!

Out of the first four i have two females, one male, and one undecided yet!!

Out of the next 4 i have one male, one female, and two undecided yet.

My cabinet is still getting full, cuz when i find a male and pull it, i replace it with one or two from the small cabinet.

Right now it looks like i'll be chopping two out the three big ones, then about two weeks later chopping the femalers from the next set of four, then two weeks and some more.

I'm trying to get a scheduled cycle down, but can't find the calculation for the number of plants, harvest cycle, and the math on how to figure it out. I read it and forgot where it was!!!!LOL!!!!!

More pics wednesday maybe!!!!

Well, thank you kratose! You have been an active member in this thread just as much as the next guy, and i thank you for it. I'm lucky to have beech, born and all the others to help a newbie out.

Oh, One other thing I wanted to ask. How long did you veg for? You veg them all for the same amount of time? seems like you vegged for 4 weeks maybe?
I vegged for almost 7 or 8 weeks with the first four, and only about 5 or 6 with the next four.

All the additions are only being vegged for about 4-5 weeks.

They are not as big as they should be because i started with flouro's only, then graduallt aded more light. So by the fourth week they had just got a taste of the MH light.

LOL!!! Beech i just don't like thick unused foilage, it's a been a fear of mine for years:shock:.....LOL!!!! I've noticed like beech said that it will be obvious what needs removed, now that they are filling out more with flowering. I see why you only take one or two at a time, to allow the plant to heal itself withoput too much stress, right?
See, i'm learning!!!LOL!!!
Oh, i already got a new pair of snippers, but i haven't used them yet, so they will be nice and sharp for harvest. You should see a decrease of trimming, it's just too much work to trimm all that stuff now. I'll let it go for a while like i did before.

K.I.S.S = Keep it simple stupid.......gotchya!:hump:
I keep a notepad and calendar at the farm, but forget the stuff by the time i get home......:joint:......i have to write duplicates for myself to remember i guess!!LOL!!!
Well, beech, anytime you wanna come give hands on training at the farm feel free, but bring the fruit with ya', and a big jacket!!!! It's damn cold here, like -5 today!!!:o
But i can keep ya laughing if you can keep with the knowledge!!!!! I wrote a number on the back of my hand once but then washed them ten minutes later. I had to piece it back together later from what i could see........lesson learned, and i took scope using 101 on you tube last night. It took awhile but i think i got it now, small end to the eye, LOL!!!!
bagseeds are all just gonna come down when they are ready, there is really no schedule, just gonna watch trichs!!!
Thanks Beech, sorry for the novel!!

Well lets clear this up then, you dont like thick unused foilage,Your Plants Do.If you had started them HID It wouldnt be as thick.I no what your thinking, that all this is blockin possible budsites. If you would have started them under HID lighting i think you would be more pleased,But when the growth spurt of the flowering happens its all gonna change and really IMO being your first grow you have done Great. This way i hope you have learnd to have more patience,Cause its a very good lesson in life and growing. After you get a yr of this your gonna find you own style of growing,by that i mean more plants are bigger and fewer plants. Its really too each his own then you throw the hydro, sog, scog, and who knows i bet you will be doing the best grow style i think there is with cost being a factor,Stadium Growing.

Thanks beech, that means alot to me!:bigjoint: I'm trying to make myself be more patient, and to not be so snipper happy, but it's hard, it's right there, but i know it's a test of patience, and i will conquer that mission!!!LOL!
I really wanna try Scrog, or just an outside trellis grow. Even SOG would be neat, just have to read on it more, and how to trim properly, i think i would still cut too much off lol!!!!

Like Somebeech said, your plant loves those big thick leafs. You might think you should remove it, but if its not absolutly needed, don't do it, because when your plant is flowering, and finishing up its cycle, its going to use all the energy stored up in those big fat leafs. And if you decide to snip it off, then thats one less energy source the plant has to use when its finishing up flowering.

Try to be patient. Let it go. Put the snippers down! haha.

Your doing great though. Can't wait to see some bud porn!

Hey guys, Merry christmas to all and to all a good HIGH!!!!

Update is that Plant#3 was a male, and got pulled today, along with it's clone. That makes two out of four on females with the first four,:weed:!!!

The next four has lost one to being male, and i think i have one more to pull thats male. The other two are for sure females!!!

We are two weeks today of flower on what is left from Plants 1-8, and about week for the rest.

Here is puling #3, from the bucket:

I think that this is a natural for dwarfs. They don't need a change in light. They get about 1 foot tall. In 9 weeks they are done flowering. the following you can see.
NEW IN - DIESEL RYDER
Genetics: New York City Diesel x Lowryder #2
Variety: sativa/indica/ruderalis
Type: stabilized hybrid
Harvest Date: 9 weeks from seed
Flowering Period: 6+ weeks

THC Content: 17-19%

A potent, extremely resinous and tasty autoflowering plant. An inbred cross of Soma's Diesel and Lowryder #2, this strain normally produces one main cola with less branching than LR #1 or #2. Typical of the Joint Doctor's strains, Diesel Ryder flowers automatically at 3-4 weeks and finishes in 8-9 from seed. A small proportion of this strain will grow significantly taller than other individuals. A good choice for closets and small indoor set-ups. Beware: plants give off a powerful odour during flowering!

MDanzig’s Blueryder aka Blue streak
Genetics: Masterlow x Blueberry (DJ Short)
Variety: Indica / Sativa / Ruderalis Type: stable Hybrid
Harvest Date: 2 months from sowing when Auto-flowering
Flowering Period: 6 weeks THC Content: Unknown No. of Seeds Per Packet: 10
Characteristics: Fruity Lowryder Hybrid

Finally! Underground breeder MDanzig’s own compact, 100% autoflowering plant is now ready and available only through High Bred. MDanzig’s aim was to create an autoflowering strain with Blueberry characteristics in appearance and taste. Hats off to a Cannabis pioneer, we think you’ve done it! Life cycle is 8 weeks from seed to bud. Blue Streak is Dj Shorts Original Blueberry Female crossed to Master Low Male, and then resulting females crossed again to Master Low Male.

These are female plant #4 (Cryptonite) at 2 weeks flower, 9 weeks total!!

Pic #5 is the best, look at those shiny little hairs!!!!!!:o LOL!!!

I have been using lemons juice to lower my PH, but it doesn't seem to make a difference in the soil PH, when i test the run off.

Can I add the PH down they sell to the water i use to water my soil, or is that just for hydro use?
I should probably already know this, Huh? LOL!!!
