How am I doing?

Whats up bud...I looked through your thread and it looks like you have a P def....usually with P def the leaves will turn anywhere from red to purple. I seen that your PH is pretty high, when I veg mine I keep it at 5.5 and when I bud I kick it up to 5.9 for better uptake of nutes. I have grown in soil for years, but now its hydro all the way indoors. If I was you, I would water with RO water for a week and see if they snap out of it.
Alright. Is distilled water as good as reverse osmosis? After they snap out of it will they be able to be fed with tap water?
All the plants are starting to turn a little purple, so I'm thinking that it might be a deficiency. I'll post pics tomorrow to see if the big bloom and lower ph water has helped at all.
Thanks

Most grocery stores have a RO water fillin station, or invest about $300 for a RO system. City water is bad for plants, its high in lime and calc. The PH of the city water here is 7.0....thats way too high! Hydro is the way to go, if the PH is high..use ph down, and if its low...use ph up. But outdoors is great too, expecially when you get a lb or more per plant!

Is the RO system worth it? If it helps my plants grow better, then I'm sure it'll pay for itself.
This grow is so frustrating for me. The 8 day old seedling looks the same as it did 3 days ago, but the roots are definitely growing. grrrrr

Yes...it is definately worth it!! Your plants will love the change. You can make your own hydro system pretty cheap, just get a LARGE storage container as a resivoir, get a water pump, air pump w/bubble stick for oxygen in the res... and build a wooden table to support your(rubbermaid tubs or whatever you plan on using)..cut 2 holes in the bottom, 1 for your pump to fill the tub, and 1 as an overflow that you will have to rig with pvc or plastic tubing to the right level you want.

Yes, my next grow will be hydro. Just wanna get through one full grow using soil just to get a bit of experience. Do you have to drain into your tap to use reverse osmosis system or can you just setup hose from the tap to the system?
Thanks!

A buddy hooked mine up for me, I know he had to tap into the water line. All he needed was a drill, everything else came with the system. I did see some counter top models for $150, you might want to look into one of those.

Cool, I'll look into it.
I checked on my plants this morning and no difference whatsoever, not in the seedlings either.

When they're young they work on establishing a root base before growing... So root growth is definately good...

Also, it's really hard to notice any differences day by day, so take some pictures and look at them a week later...

Another thing, I've had excellent results with and without RO water.

If you're using RO water you'll want to add some Micro and some MgCal supplements since teh RO filters out all of the beneficial minerals.

So, you don't need RO, I don't use it because I go through 50 gallons per watering, so the runoff would be in the neighborhood of 1000 gallons of waste water, plus it would take more than a day to make 50 gallons... Oh well, I'm getting great results w/out.

Explaining the waste water;

A reverse osmosis filter screen is only large enough for pure water molecules to squeeze through, the water has to be flowing over the membrane (screen) and only a little actually makes it through... Pure RO water... The majority is routed into the waste line, which is the water that flowed over the membrane and didn't make it through. The rates vary, but a good guess it you'll create two gallons of waste water for every cup of clean RO water.

I guess I shouldn't leave out that you can purchase a pump that will make the waste into a recirculating system, but we're talking some serious money and a lot of prep work. Just thought I should leave out all the options.

If your water sucks and you don't want to spen that much cash, regular media filters do a decent job, but not nearly like a RO...

Thanks for the info. All the roots look healthy, but I really don't get why the plants are growing so slow, unless it is the quality of the water. I'm going to buy some distilled water see if that helps.

A transplant if going to happen friday. I'm probably going to get 3 gal pots but was wondering is it's really worth it to get the 5 gal. Also, height is better than width right? Hopefully they'll blastoff after the transplant. I'm depending on it!

Holly hell... You really want to start shit off eh... lol... hieght vs width?

There wouldnt be things like LST or supercropping.

depending on your environment...you might WANT to go sideways... When your talking indoor, the light penetration is an important factor unless you use the higher wattage HID's ... In a 400 watt environment i can say that your main growth is going to be about 24 inches. you might want to have a wider canopy than a taller one... ya dig?

Yeah I meant about the container. Would have gone and got them today but EVERYTHING here is closed.
I was curious about the Big Bloom feeding quantity. On the schedule it says 2 tablespoons but on the bottle it says 4 tablespoons per gallon. Which is it?
oh, and I would post pics, but there is barely ANY new growth :(

edit: NO new growth

Well man, you already have some new ones started. So keeping these going isn't gonna hurt any thing, see what happens, and merry christmas man!

I guess your right, it won't hurt anything to keep em alive. It's so frustrating having them SO damn small. I have 3 more BBS germinating right now.
Tomorrow is transplant day.

2 tablespoons per gallon...

The Foxfarm feeding chart basically is everything half strength of what the bottle says.

What I do...

I mix up a regiment for 20 gallons, into ten gallons, then I add water until I reach the desired ppm/ec... Then I adjust the pH, then water.
