Don't get an air ionizer or air purifier or any of those expensive things they just don't work for the strong smell of weed late in flower. Your plants will not smell any more than they do now in the first 2 weeks of flowering. In fact the first two weeks of flowering you barely get hairs, can barely tell it's going into flowering.

What you should get for smell control is look at all the DIY activated charcoal filter or carbon or whatever. Or buy a retail one but they are expensive. One of these of the right size for your grow will make it smell like nothing is out of the ordinary but those other devices can't do that and are completely innefective even with just a couple plants.

You could also get away with dryer sheets on your exhaust fan, but that's temporary peobably only last a couple weeks and always will smelll like you're doing laundry, suspicious...

As far as flowering now, you absolutely don't have to at all. There are numerous methods for training and bending the top down so you can fit a 6' tall plant in a 2' tall space if you just train it and keep on training it as it stretches during flower. You'll end up with either a scrog type setup or just a lot of string tying the tops down and the main stem pinched and crushed intentionally to bend it right in half if you like if that's what it takes, plant won't care and will still flourish.

does the carbon filter need to be on 24/7?

At the moment I only run my fan and filter when the lights are on, but thats 18 hours per day as I'm growing an autoflowering strain.

When growing "normal" strains, I continue to run the fan and filter for an hour, after the lights go off. And I start the fan and filter an hour before the lights come on. This makes a total of 14 hours a day (during flowering). I notice a light smell outside my grow room, a few hours after the fan goes off, but not anywhere else in my house.

If you want to be vitually odour less then run the fan and filter 24/7. Or look up Ozone generators on google, these will really do the trick but they are expensive and more suited for large setups.

theres a thread about a zen carbon filter that you can make for like 5 bucks with shit from walmart. look it up.

also i read in an old high times that you can take posterborde and roll it into a tube the size of a fan you have (or your outlet duct) and tape it onto the front of it. take some wiffle balls (the small plastic ones with holes in them) and stuff some fabric sheets in them, as much as you can and then just fill the paper tube with them and have that runnin all the time.
