First LST Attempt

Well guys I have recently made my first attempt at lst. Myself I think I got the idear- create a nice even canopy of tops, as many as u can And I believe Ive succeeded thus far, check it out-

hehehe... its bending and tying the top of the plant so the under branches grow up like tops so they can make more budds.

i started my first atempt to late so it was kinda hard, i should have started like 3 weeks sooner but oh well its working. when i started it was 13 inches tall... hehe... yea... i transplanted it on its side (pic 1) to lessen the streas i would give it, i then took the advice of someone in my journal to start bending it one way or the other. i started and after 6 days this is how far ive got it. its a perty much 180 degree bend. the top, which is now split, is facing the oposite way it would naturaly face. ill trace the stem, top and all the branches for you too.

Thought I had to be doing something right, I look at it and all I see is tops, everywhere, and theyre all at the same level except for the very first top that was tied down, it's like an inch higher than the rest but i think i can live with that:-P

I've done LST myself...and i got a question.... See, Its been almost a week since i LSTd.... now, i need to transplant in another 2 days.... how do i do that??... Cut open the tie ropes and transplant and tie accordingly in new pot??....

Sure no problem just cut the ties at the base, and retie after transplant.

make sure you dont tie the rope too tight because they can grow alot thicker... lost a lot of grow shoots that way...

I made hooks out of coat hanger wire. I cut them about 3 inches long and bent a hook at one end. When the tops start to grow upwards and grow another set of leaves, I pull out the hook and move it above the new set of branches. The tops start to bend back toward the light in hours. It's pretty cool. Its my first try at it so I started flowering it with the other plants that I topped. I could have gotten a lot more colas out of it if I vegged more but fuck it. Check out my journal to get a better idea.

I've actually noticed my stings that i'm using LOOSENING over time. I even unhooked one, and the stem retained it's position as well. For the first week i kept tightening them down to create an even canvas. Even ltd'd one of my younger plants to see if i can get a nice fat bush full of buds:-P

i meant make the knot that you make around the branch loose. what your talking about is the tightness of the downward pull; the string losses tension over time and they become pointless . that's when you cut them off

you could use pape clips. i use them when you get to the second and third levels of branching

I've just kinda keepin them there for support for now.

i use paper clips. bent out strait and then bent in half once or twice, depending on the strength of the area, and then into a hook shape.

I don't personally care for the paperclip or wire hanger.... I'm lazy so i just get about a foot of dacron backing, and make a lil lasso with a slip knot. That way alls i gotta do to adjust is give the string a pull, workin out pretty well. So far, I'm likin this lst shiz, i can really see it coming together:-P. Next time around I'm gonna do the lst-then-FIM-trick and hopefully it'll end up more even across the top and have a nice fat bush full of buds in the end! :weed:

I wish I could upload my grow. It's my second cycle ever and first attempt at LST. I've got 6 clones that were transplanted into netpots and filled with hydroton. I do the slip knot lasso my self and tie between the holes. So far so good lookin very healthy andbushy. I topped a few but they are still very young so I will wait totop the rest, and possibly FIM one. Our first harvest yielded quite a bit w/o LST so this cycle should be much larger of a yield. Dwc+LST+connoisseur+gravity+bigbud+dank high yield strain=$$$$$$

I know that the strings aint the best for the stems and all, but so far no probs with them cuttin in or anything. I think I'll still be switching to some old fly line to tie them down in the future just to be safe.

I tried to do the whole spiral around the pot idea but the side branches bushed out so quick I gave up on the idea. I still LST'd the branches to grow more outward than inward.
I think I LST'd too young and too much, maybe but just be sure to not over bend your stems-- I LSTd a mainstem before and it ended up cracking like an hour later...luckily I was still in veg and the plant recovered very nicely( almost seemed to help it)
