Trade them a 401k for their pensions. I do not watch that bullshit. I do not care if they inaugurate every dumb ass in Washington DC.

To use the words "least fortunate" is to imply that those who are doing well owe it all to luck. People who are poor are usually poor because of their own bad decisions, not because of luck. People who do well usually do well because of their own drive and determination. I don't think fortune has a whole lot to do with it.
No, least fortunate is correct, people of ability make their own luck, those that can't see opportunity when it arises thus fail to make their own luck, and thus are least fortunate.

I don't believe that they are any dumber, less capable, or less intelligent than any one out there. (Maybe less educated, but education is mostly a matter of reading, because the school system leaves MUCH to be desired... not that the Federal Government stepping in has fixed that.)

Besides, I've made plenty of bone-headed decisions, but I've also recognized some good opportunities when they've come knocking.

That's the exact irony. For many ghetto dwellers, they don't come knocking, in fact they have left the building, the city and the country. Hopefully Obama will start to remedy this. JFYI, I never had what I'd call a golden opportunity, it was all hard work with little payoff. Didn't know the right people.

I don't understand where people get the idea that luck has anything to do with people having or not having as much as another person. I think people would be hard pressed to find a business owner, who has started up his own business and is doing well, mention anything about a whole lot of luck playing into it. People don't just fall into successful businesses, they work at them.

I'm not saying there aren't a whole lot of "haves" out there who don't get everything handed to them. Far from it! But they aren't deserving either. It's unfair that Britney Spears got a package deal with a record company even though she has no talent. It's unfair that Paris Hilton is going to inherit millions because her ancestors knew how to work hard and make a hotel company work successfully eventhough she doesn't have the brains to figure out what to do with it. Things are unfair! That's the way the world works! I'm not happy about it either. I've had lots of unfair things happen in my lifetime too. But I'm not looking to Mr. Obama to bail me out on it or ask him to allow the taxpayers dollars to help me out either!

To use the term "fortunate" in conjunction with the idea of anybody having or not having something is to imply that their actions had absolutely no bearing on the results at all. It's like saying that if a well to do person is "fortunate" they didn't have a hand in being better off financial than any other person by working harder, or studying more on that test, or selling more products to earn more on his/her paycheck. Work makes wealth, it doesn't make fortune.

Those that are successful make their own luck, and thus are more fortunate. Do you disagree that they make their own luck?

Or in the case of Hilton, her parents made her luck for her.

In the case of Britney... :: shrugs :: some folks just have really retarded tastes in Music.

I watched most of it. I thought it was fine. I know it's a matter of personal taste, but, I kinda dig the whole pomp and circumstance.....

Disappointed in Lowery though.

Bush had a tough 8 years and it would have been tough on anyone.
He made it much tougher on himself by surrounding himself with the idiots that he did. Then again, you could say he was stupid for picking those people to begin with. His cabinet was what made him a bad president, without them he would have just been moderate.

If a president doesn't believe in god, then does he still have to be sworn in with his hand on the bible?

I don't believe in god so I can swear, yet lie, on the bible all day long........

Good question. Although I have to admit, I don't think the majority of American citizens are ready to elect a non-believer. That would really surprise me if we came up against that in 4 years.

Like swearing on the bible in court, what good does that do if you think the bible is a sham? I swear on a lie not to lie...........?
I'm half-expecting all those empty heads behind Obama to start mimicking the Nazis and start shouting, "Heil Obama" with their arms out stretched with an open hand.

And what was the deal with the artillery piece?

Though I don't see how government is going to both increase the quality of healthcare and decrease its cost. The problem isn't the quality, nor really the cost. I'd rather pay high prices for high quality healthcare than low prices for low quality healthcare.

Though thinking about his comments on education, does that mean the government is some how going to increase the quality of our schools and decrease their costs, too?

He needs a better speech writer...

What they need to do is get rid of medical lawsuits or cap them and only allow lawyers who sue for medical malpractice to make a small percentage of the total compensation. That will cut back medical costs!

It's a waste of tax payer money, oh, and some private funds sure. Even $15 Million would have been too much to spend.

Besides, I reserve the right to bitch about the useless largess of government, and the misbegotten ideas that they have.

Last time I checked the United States didn't have a lese majeste law on the books either, so there's nothing saying I can't express a negative opinion, but if you really think that there should be something like that on the books, there's this nation called Thailand across the Pacific, move there.
