Ash as a fertilizer????

so i have run into a few problem and i have looked around about spreading ashes from a fire place around the plant... just wondering if anyone has done it? or heard of doing it?.. the place i found it at never said what type of plants he was useing it on... a few replies said in order for ash to decompose it needs nitrogen and could possible take it away from my plants.. other say that it helps boost the nitro.. so i decided to ask all of you... so please tell me yay or nay?

Yeah, I've done it, one time. Wood ashes are a great source of K but will interfere with the uptake of N, Ca, Mg and cause your pH to soar to the moon. You best test the pH of your runoff. Ashes do not take away N, they cause an antagonistic affect regarding the uptake of certain minerals.

well im also using fox farm products...would it be too much to add ash along with the regular feeding?

not really sure if i have a K deficiency... i have added a lil bit of nutes about a 1/4 of a teaspoon to gallon of water and over the past few days they really started to look a lil more alive...reaching towards the light.

Don't fix what aint broken. I have seen guessing and blind experimentation ruin more gardens.

First you have to find out what the innate nutritional charge in the FoxFarms and what its NPK value and then go from there.

If you're in veg, your plants need more N than P & K now. Produce (and maintain) as much foliage as you can before and during flowering.
