I am most of the way done in getting my room ready . It's still a mess, I know...I need to get everything nailed down and the coords tied up. I was just smoking, watching a movie , and making sure all my lights and rigging worked out. I am going to use these crappy 4' T12s for the first 2 weeks or so of veg ( and as much sunlight as I can ) in 16 oz. cups, then use my 400w MH/HPS to harvest in 2 gal. pots. One thing I noticed was that a lot of light is pouring out of the sides of my hood ( see pics )as it is only a basic batwing reflector.Should I just use it like this or should I re-hang my chains so that the open sides are against the wall and closet door to help keep more of the light going straight down ?Venting works better with the way it is but if I am losing too much light I'll do what has to be done.

Thoughts?

P.S. I am pretty sure my ballast did a tour or 2 in 'Nam...check it out it's a beast.

how many plants are you going to grow under the hps?

4-6 plants , about 2-2.5 ft. tall.Seems like if I turn the light the other way it will be hard to get light to more than 4 plants....

I have 5.5ft. of vertical space to work with, and a 2ft x 4.5ft. floorspace.

i like your set-up. i think you will do fine with those lights for vegging. i do. i think the only thing i would do is add some mylar to the walls and you will be lit-up nice. now you need some green in there.

I'm going to agree with fdd2blk about adding mylar; it's worth the $15 dollars or so. Also, you may consider using larger pots, unless you're not planning to veg long. I'd think about at least going with 3 gallon pots though.

Hmmm you really think I would need 3 gal. pots for 2ft plants ? I have an outdoor grow right now and I have 3 ft plants in 2 gal. pots and they show no signs of rootbound. I am planning on vegging to about 12-15"...I was actually thinking about doing like a mini sog type thing maybe have many plants in 1 gal pots and grow for tops.

Well if you're going to do sog, no. One or two gallons should be enough, but anything in the three foot plus range I'd definately consider three gallon pots. What strain are you growing?

I think it's gonna be purps and the fem. buddha from BC Seedking. I also have some BB from Nirvana laying around. I am trying to find out if I can cross reg plants with feminized plants and get normal seed..

Not an expert..but I believe that you will get "normal" seeds if you use a fem in a cross and bang her with a good stud. Pretty sure *he* will re-intro the male genes to the mix.... others may have more info but I've never ever heard any horror/weird stories from such an event.

As far as yer hps light... I would find "something" reflective to affix to the end of the reflector that sends that light on the end of the batwing downward into the garden. *If* you have a hydro store nearby they may have some spare aluminum/reflector inserts you could foil tape (available at Home Depot) on... or you may be able to tap yer "stoner ingenuity" and come up with something on yer own using foil tape..mylar..alum foil or flat white materials to get the job done.

IMO you should stick w/ 2 gallon pots max...you just don't have the space to waste on huge pots and the size plants they'll try to produce. Get a rhythm down..clone..fill the space...flower at a reasonable height...and stand back and watch da show!

floros look very similar to what I..and I'd wager many others started with. Definitely OK for now..but as time goes along you may want something a bit more intense to really send em into orbit (thinking t-5 or small MH)

anyway...cut me off from the coffee...

good luck

Ya I am going to go get some mylar today for the walls. As far as altering the hood, I will see what I can do about modifying it in a safe way. I know the T12s are seriously ghetto,I am going to use sunlight ( shade to start ) for the sprouts and was only going to use the FLs for the last hour or so of light if need be. The days are still long enough for while so I may just throw those FLs in the garage  . I should be able to use my 400w MH conv. bulb after a couple of weeks no ?

Man I hate the initial set-up of the indoor grow..so spoiled with the ease
of outdoor...
