Grow box design

i am going to build a small grow box, i was thinking of makin it 5ft tall, 4ft wide, and 3ft long. it will be housing 4 soil plants or, a 4 plant dro kit, i am using mylar for the walls, lights i was thinking of 4 cfl lights, or fluro grow tubes.

please feel free to give me any thoughts of ways to improve while stayin cheap

Make sure you have a way to get air into and out of the box. A smalll fan helt get the stems strong from the movement. I'd use 65-85 watt CFL's for th e top and figure out how to run 26-40 watt cfl's as side light. Maybe surround it with 26-40watt cfl to save the cost of the big bulbs. Together they still won't cause a heat problem. What strain are you growing? Is it bag seed? The reason I ask is that with it being 5' high with grow medium underneath and the lights on top you are going to have a 3' limit on plant size without using some pruning techniques while in veg. Flower them when they get to about 1' and you should be ok.

no i am growing different kinds of dro, all are medium to short height. and i was thinkin of puttin a cfl on each wall for side lighting if i can, and i will have a intake on the left bottom side and exaust on the top right

That looks interesting. Never seen anything quite like that. Still like the idea of moveable lights. Makes things for flexible.

ya, cause i just set up for 2 plants, and i got 4 spiral lights that are = to 150w and im about to test out my new dro kit with some free power skunks to see if i wanna use them

What are the lumens on those bulbs. Cool white (6500K) are for veg and Warm White (2700K) are for flower. A mix is ok but lean one way or another depending on the stage of your grow. You can always increase the light by adding these

Power skunks are a combo of the power plant and skunk#1. That about 4-5' feet tall till mature. You can control the height by LST, FIM and early to flower but it will be challenging. I have about 4' of grow room after I take off the height needed for the res and the light in my closet. That's why I grow indica strains. Well that and I like a power buzz.

FIM

There is a topping method known as the FIM technique. If you push the leaves apart at the very top of the plant you should see a small bud (not flowering bud but an actually leaf bud). Use a pair of nail clippers to pinch off about 3/4 of the bud. This should result in more than two top colas being developed. In a single FIM clipping you can produce up to eight new top colas.
The origins of this technique are humorous. As the story goes, FIM was discovered accidentally when a grower messed up a topping exercise. FIM stands for: "Fuck I Missed".

Super Cropping Technique
Another method of topping is called xSuper Cropping'. By taking a branch between your forefinger and thumb you can gently crush the branch, causing it to develop multiple branches above the crushed area. You must crush it on the correct side or risk breaking the branch. Just squeeze lightly until you feel the branch give, then let go. If it gives easily then you have crushed it on the correct side. If it is hard to crush and the branch splits then you have chosen the wrong side. Practice makes perfect with Super Cropping.

Super Cropping should be carried out during the second or third week of vegetative growth and does stunt the plant. You should also note that plants that are Super Cropped can remain in the vegetative growth stage for twice as long as normal but the end result is a very bushy plant with multiple node regions that should all produce bud. Many growers have thrown Super Cropped plants away because they believed that the plants were not flowering in time. If you Super Crop your plants make sure that you have the patience to wait until the process is finished which — usually about four to six more weeks of vegetative growth.

I did both on the last grow. Experimenting just a little as I learn. The whole goal is to get as many tops exposed to the light as possible. Keeping it even by sight seems to work best for me. My hydro set up is about 2' x 1' bubbleponics so there is room for side growth. The actual grow area is about 4 x 2. So the answer is do whatever you feel like.

cool, can i kill my plants if i cut too far
