A pot, some soil, and hand water......
If you want a great and easy way to grow, look up Hempy Buckets...
have you ever grown the same strain from clone side by side in dirt and aero?Fancy systems are a money pit, there's nothing that will outperform nature ultimately
I guess it all depends on what we'd consider "out performing". I try to grow for medicine and distinct taste so there's nothing but soil and organics on my mind.have you ever grown the same strain from clone side by side in dirt and aero?
I think the product will usually taste better from dirt, but a well ran aero system will greatly outperform dirt in shear growth.
This is def true.I guess it all depends on what we'd consider "out performing".
This is def true.
I look at a performance test as a real-time test of overall production.
If you grow them side by side, the aero plants grow so much faster it's almost amazing.
Some dirt growers will claim that though aero plants grow faster, properly done organic soil can produce as much premium bud in the same time frame.
I'd contest, stating that it is likely that for the first couple production runs in a new aero system vs. an old hand and a steady system in dirt, this is likely. However, once an aero system is tuned in, it is inevitable that the accelerated growth will outweigh the slow & steady output of dirt. Production is massive in a well functioning aero system.
However, even a well ran aeroponic operation using top quality ferts will never produce the product that organic dirt will, and for that matter any quality dirt.
I think that this is the trade-off. In order to obtain the explosive growth, you must trade some of the aesthetic qualities. You force the plant to grow so fast, that it can't produce the terpenes and oils for the amount of mass that it is creating. Well, that's my theory anyway...
I cannot argue AK, I have friends with aero grows and they are impressive, very. Nothing gets me mor excited than a well executed organic soil grow, to do the plant justice, but aero is a very exciting method.Major Tom,
Sorry to hijack your thread like that.
I'll give you my opinion based on what I've read:
You'll obtain the best product with premium organic fertilizer of any kind. Sub Cool's super soil is renowned to provide very good growth and weight.
Hand watering your plants is the only reliable way to provide the plant the optimum amount of drying out time (which provides o2 to the roots) and water.
Drippers cannot decide when to wait a little while because the plants metabolism changed and it didn't use as much water, or to water more often becuase the humidty has dropped and the plants are transpirating more.
So, for headies, that's what I've chosen. We'll see how it goes in the coming up months here.

I believe without a doubt that aero plants grow faster than soil, the root development is disgusting, haha. I love the connection I get by hand watering my plants and giving them close attention. Part of the appeal of growing is the connection to life and nature for me, so soil is naturally my only option. I got respect for you "technical" growers, still takes a great understanding and respect for the plant to properly manipulate the environment. Keep up the good work AK, I love the discussions. Sorry for the pirating of your thread Major Tom, best of luck mate
