what is the benefit of vegging indoors before transplanting outside?

my bet is that using a 24 hour schedule almost any time will be fine ;) would prolly work on a 16. but 24 is bound to work

but youl be right for sure with what youve said i reckon......
4 sho..and how many months exactly doez it take outdoor plants to bud FROM THE TIME THEY START BUDDING??kiss-ass

varies like indoors. and it depends when you like to harvest too.. i

ts about the same amount of time tho really....

but on the bright side ya can get more i the kit strait away :)

SEEING AS I GOT AK48..HOW MANY MOTNHS?2 OR 3?

ak48 is known be a VERY fast finisher...

Nirvana - AK-48 (Regular)

This easy to grow plant is of medium height and produces good yields quite quickly. Extremely STRONG odor and smoke. Take extra care for odor control when growing near neighbors. The name was given not out of any idea of violence, but more in association with the one hit wonder that the smoke is. Quality without compromise makes AK suitable for commercial grows or home use. These plants have a short flowering period for a sativa, producing compact, not too leafy buds that gleam with a coat of resin crystals. Winning SEVEN prizes!! in Cannabis competitions, including second prize for the Best Sativa in the 1999 High Times Cannabis Cup, prove AK-47 is a favorite to smoke as well as to grow.

Plant height: Short Plant
Stoned or high?: Stoned INDICA
THC level: High THC
Flowering Weeks: 7/8
Yield : 400/500
Harvest Month: 10

sum places say 49 to 63 days of flowering. and if ur flowering outdoors u gotta wait till they actually start to flower before u can start to count the days. but all plants vary slightly.

do u think theyll flower AS SOON as they get placed outside...this is the evergldez.,.,so its hot, humid ,and PERFECT....so if i do veg them a little under 24/0 ,then place outside around may,or june..will they start floweriong?i just dont have the luxury of checking on my wild plants every day..so i want them to just flower for a few months..before taking care of a big, vegging monster...

huh im confused.... did you write it backwards

it will show signs of shanging pretty fast.. its not that different to if it was in the kit.

it will do the whole grow bigger then bud thing just as if it was in the kit really.. think of it as a big light that turns itself off at its own intervals.

theres not too much differance to the schedule of things really. but eliminates height probs and all that.

theyll shoot off and do the double to tripple in size thing and flower.

did that answer your question????

I too have the same question.

I'm planning on germinating this week/next week and starting up. Last frost is recorded as 4/20 :bigjoint:.

My question is, if I veg for about 2 months and put the plants outdoors, will it still have time to grow till about September/October? (Most of the strains I'm using end then)

I think my main concern is growing these things too big in my closet and then once transplanted outside, grow buds prematurely and fast.

I am pretty newb but I've been reading up A SHITLOAD.

What's the BEST amount of time to veg before putting them outside? And if it's May 1st, is that too early for harvest in October? I've heard 1.5-2 feet is great for when it's time to put them outside.

Thanks for any input.

i generally wait till its in full veg and showing preflowers, meaning is matureing any time after then..but you can do it at any stage really..

as for size once in bud theyll only ever double to tripple in size.... ya just gotta get to know your strain/s :)

also its hard for me to say cos i dont know your climates and what not im ozzir and i we can do this all year round axcept for some summers at the wrong time.... and its a relatively small gap if that helpss.

to Rakuencallisto
are you just trying to start themm and put them outside to veg or just put them out too bud.

if you want it to go outside and veg more before budding my advise would be to start it in less light and put it out when the daylight sorta matches the kit then it would have no problems with light change really.... you ant to put it somewhere itle get sufficient light once you put it outdoors. is that what you mean

and yes a younger plant wil have more chance of continueing to veg it wont have become too accostomed to the schedule or the easy going life style to keep vegging and survive :) but if done correctly the differance beetween younger vs older doesnt matter...

the basics behind starting a plant indoor to be set up for outdoor is exactly that..
your starting it in as close to the environment your going to be putting it in. and its best to aim for the weather at the starts of the season cos thats where youll be putting it :). in doig this when you putt it outside itle continue to veg and as the days get longer thats al its gonna do is veg and get bigger till the day has less light and a cooler atmosphere really

the basis behind starting indoor ad finishing outdoor...
this works because your taing it out of its usual light schedule and it gets less hours of light each day and more than likely a cooler environment which helps. (its mainly the light dropping back tho). this makes the plant think its time to bud and will start the change. the only real worry is when the daylight hours outside start getting too close to that of a kit or rise too fast meaning you planted them outside at that one time ya shouda waited :) ie comming up to whatever your logest days are :)

it works cos the plant gets less light when taken from the kit. and as long the light change is significant enough youll get bud. and because of its nurcherd childhood and what not it seems to combine the best points of indoor and outdoor weed.

also whats more is once the light has been chaned and it starts budding the amont of days to mature doesnt change too much.

hope this helps...

I'm just scared I'll put it out May 1st and get buds on July 1st. I mean, this would be a good thing to end so early, but isn't it not at it's full potential?

Pretty much, I just can't wait anymore and want to get a head start. I'll grow for about a month and a half, maybe 2 months (from seedling), then put them outside to do their thing.

What I don't want is come June 1st I see these things already in flowering and I can't do anything about it because they're in the ground. :wall:

So, I read in July/August we receive about 14-15 hrs of sunlight a day. Should I set my indoor timer to about 12 hours of sunlight? This would induce flowering and fuck I hate this shit.....

if you can you could start from seeds then clone them and if you have any males kill em off if you don't want to do a bit of seed harvesting and save the female plants that you started from seeds as a indoor mom and every crop harvest take some clones off your moms veg them then put the clones out intesd of using the time to start from seed every time then have to make sure you don't have any males in the batch of seeds (ferminized or not)

Ok yea, that could work and I could do that, but it still doesn't answer my question (no offense).

I just want my babies to grow at full potential and be healthy. Would I run into photosynthesis issues starting indoors now (first week of March) and transplanting outside April 20th - May 1st?

I would do 18/6 indoors and then around May 1st, sunlight around here is about 13-14 hours. This would probably induce flowering right? I just want massive outdoor plants and I can't let them get too crazy in my tiny closet.

Most strains I have are 65-70 days flowering, so it seems a bit early to harvest in July when they say in the description September/October.

No , starting them indoors till you get them to a size you want before transplanting out side will give them an advantage because like you said around that time there is 13-14 hours of light they can be big and once out side when they flower you'll have a higher yeild compared to if you took clones and planted them out side.

If hight is a problum then insted of going for tall pots try going for something that is longer and wider. This will still give you root space but spred out and you can also top and manipulate your plant's growth by making it grow wider insted of taller. you could (if you wanted to / if you wanted to do if you have experince) is to grow your mom in a hydro system and not have to worie about pots. Take clones off your mom and grow them in soil

Yea I'd definitely be interested in trying that... maybe. This is my 2nd grow and I sort of went all out with the seeds/soil/knowledge/books.

I'm not too knowledgeable on cloning or even worse, hydroponics, but I do have the bible by Jorge. I could consider cloning, but hydro is probably out of the picture.

I think what I'm going to do is start all 5 of my Arjan's Ultra Haze #1 Female (13-14 weeks of flowering!) inside then put them outside around May 1st. Once these are ready to go outside, I'll start the seedlings for my Satori and Northern Lights (7-9 weeks of flowering) and those will be transplanted June 1st-June 15th.

This will hopefully prevent any pre-flowering issues, since I'll start the early flower strains a month ahead and give it more hours of light (14-16 hours).

Also this will mean both strains will be finished at the same time :) I thought I wasn't going to able to finish the haze, but I'm having second thoughts now. If I start very soon, I could beat the frost of Middle October by harvesting in late September/early October.

Would you suggest doing this, or just starting the seedlings all together and putting them out around May 1st?

Thanks again for all the help, I'm just trying to soak up all this knowledge and do it right the first time, so my future memories on how to grow will be accurate and precise. Appreciate it.

your supposed to start them on less or equal light to what youd be putting them in when doing what your sayin.... you normaslly keep them on this till they go out giving you a head start its not really that hard oce you get the idea of it.

remember its the drop in amount of light they recieve that will turn them to head... if done right this will only happen when the days get shorter...

this my friend has to answer your question....

if youve already got them on a propper light schedule you are only left with two options... grow it out in the kit or just use it for vegging and put it out when you want it to bud..

if you can pull off multi strain harvest even if the flowering times are diff I would go for it.

I would start the seedlings all inside since they will only flower when they are mature it will help make sure they will flower them when the flowering time is right.

If you keep the males and collect their polin sacks , use the polin on the female of the same strain and harvest a big batch of seeds so that if you wanted to start from seeds you will have your own. Its a cheeper way and 1 female can produce hundreds even thousands of seeds and if you realy want to you can later down the road start mixing strains and growing thoes seeds to see if you can make one that you like

mmmmmmmmmm yummy so to really mix a strain I just take a male and cross it with a female of another strain?

I really want to try this but never got much into genetics.

Ok so final plan: Start the longer flowering strains (sativas) this month, then later next month I'll start the seedlings for the indica dominants. Tell me this is ok. Say the words, i need closure haha.

Thanks again man.

PS: does it matter what lights I use to induce seed production? I prob would just keep it under my fluorescent and/or CFLs till it got seeds since that would be the plants sole purpose.

No it shouldn't realy matter , but I would perfer to use CFLs if I was doing a seed harvest if you wanted to go with Floresent lights

as for the mixing strains , it will take a bit to find the right ones to mix because you would have to mix 1 male with diffrent females to find what made the best batch of seeds that your looking for and do this with all the males that you have of the same strain that you used for the male to make sure you mix the right 2 plants to get the best plant you want. This can be done alot easer indoors since you can do more then 1 seed harvest in 1 year compared to doing it out doors

Oh wait, you didn't add closure to my earlier question!

ahha once you help me with this I think I can stop bugging you, this is great great help man.

Jester: I think I'll go with the latter of your explanation. I'll veg them inside for a month or so, then throw them outside for the 2.5 months of flowering.

If I was you and you have the space I would start both the sativas and indica strains at the same time so that you won't have to wait to germinate the shorter flowering strain lateron then put it out side and wait for it to mature. If you start them both you'll have the shorter flowering strain maturity be about 1 month ahead compared to if you started it next month.

Hope this helps. I don't mind getting asked questions because I like helping other people out.

Good attitude, this is what I like to see in the community, knowledgeable people not afraid to help out others, especially newbs.

The space thing might be an issue, I've got the cellar I could work with, but I don't want to have to do that since I live with others. Not a big deal, but mold, light leaks and pests could be easier to come by down there.

Plus it's colder.
