Procyon LED. Newbie Help, aero garden

So according to your calculations that guy gets a 0.92, consider he doesn't make as efficient use of the light as he could and has lots of light escaping, with soil and no co2 or anything I'd say thats very good and would demonstrate LEDs are becoming viable. I'm going to attempt to make full use of the LEDs I've ordered getting them close to the plants and light sealing the area and see what results I get.

60w flowering area
80 days of flowering (assuming he had transplanted similar sized clones since I'm trying to calc the GE rating just for flowering.

Total yield: 1.8 oz (53g)

60/1000 = 0.06

0.06 x 12 = 0.72

0.72 x 80 = 57.6

53/57.6 = 0.92

he would not have yeilded as much if he flowerd of right away. so 0.92 is not correct 24 light x 3 weeks at 60watts per hour

.... I'm saying compare it to the example as a flowering chamber.... assuming you had vegged a clone to the same size elsewhere and then put it in for that flowering period....it comes out to 0.92. This is the same you would do with the 2000w area in the example especially if you were going perpetual. You can't compare the 2 otherwise, unless you assumed that you vegged for a the same period under your 2ks, but then you'd be adding weeks to your equation and the GE would similarly go down.

Hi All!! Thanks for the advice, all of it! I will be using the Procyon 100 and have already started. . .
This is what I have done thus far:
1) Germinated my seeds by placing them on a wet sponge covered in tin foil and set on top of my water heater. (Durban Poison & Feminized Kaya from Nirvana).
2) 24 hours later, the shells cracked, showing a small white tail--some were longer than others.
3) Immediately I planted the seeds in a nursery-brand soil, which they use and only keep on hand for 2 weeks (I added no extra nutes) -- originally I bought Miracle Gro, but went to a nursery right before planting and they gave me the soil they themselves use. I used Ferry-Morse Peet Pots--about 6 in. deep.
4) I have a Procyon 100/ 125W LED light--blue and red spectrum only. I placed a plastic dome (lid) to trap moisture b/c my light does not produce much heat--also my grow room is a Home Box. My light is about 10-12 inches above my germinated, planted seeds. They have not popped out yet.
5) For flowering I plan on using a 400W HPS.
QUESTIONS:
1) Should I use a softer light for sprouting?
2) Is the root supposed to be longer before planting or does it really matter?
3) Any of my above stuff sound wrong or any suggestions?

sounds good, the led is a soft light
i like to at least see 1/4" of root first but it shouldn't matter too much

i got a durban growing as well w/400w HPS flowering
i use CFLS for veg though .... i got a lot of shit going on with minimal power

You might want to get some real lights also! You arent going to grow any serious plants unless you are running HID. You might get 1/8oz per plant from an LED over a 6 month period.

Anyone want some Ocean Front Property in Arizona? You buy 10 acres, ill throw in 3 LED panels!

the ammount of time in veg as a lot to do with yeild so the only true and fair way of doing it is the total veg and flower you could veg a plant for 6 months and flower under a 1000w and get 2,000g is that 2 GPW? you have to use power to get the clones to make it to 1 foot tall the only way to compare 2 different gardens is the method above its not very accurate if some one says i got 500g from a 400w lamp when it has taken 5 months to grow and someone says i got 300g fro a 400w and its take 2 months to grow but if you use the above method to work it out then its a fair comparison there is no other way of doing it.

I've just set up a little lamp with 5 2w 6500k HO leds, gonna do an experiment and veg a seedling under it for a few weeks. I'll keep you all posted.

uhh, sure, and people go to adultfriendfinder because of the backing of science and botany.

Advertisers are not hooking LED growers, the science behind it is sound. It is merely a matter of finding the proper wavelengths and apply appropriate intensity. Claiming all early adopters are being scammed is quite ignorant IMO, considering many of them already know and understand the shortcomings of current LED technology, but without these pioneers testing and experimenting, we will continue to be at the mercy of the heat and expense of running HID.

So let me suggest you take you negative, all superior comments somewhere else. You people seem to think that anyone that starts and LED grow thread wants to hear from all of you naysayers telling them how stupid they were for buying LEDs.

Your still like really not getting it, and way over exagerrating the numbers (he only vegges his clones 2 1/2 weeks). Assume in your 2000w room you harvest every 2 weeks... You cant be vegging your clones in that setup because you maintain constant 12-12... This is a "flower room" So you veg your clones to a respectable size (1' usually) in your "clone chamber" then put them into your rotation. This way your comparing the GE ratings of the 2 setups and not the Whole Garden GE rating (read your own post you quoted)

"The secondary additions to the GE formula would be for the "Whole Garden GE Rating" which must include time spent in cloning and in veg. Figure it out the same way, with days spent under cloning lights, hours per day, and add those totals to the watt usage before dividing. This will give you a much lower rating than the standard Bloom GE Rating, but is more accurate for SCROG gardens, and anyone who is involved with extra vegetation time."

Considering both setups would have the same clone chamber its effect on there individual Whole Garden GE rating would be the same either way so its easier to just compare the GE rating.

Your trying to compare one setups Whole Garden GE rating to anothers GE rating though.... And I underlined that portion because it says about 1 is a good benchmark for regular GE and this setup reaches 0.92 But it says your Whole Garden GE rating will be much lower (how much is much lower) in that case 0.62 could be not so bad.... I'm not even going to go into the fact that you could run that clone chamber for about 1/2 of the power cost of the cooling system your not having to run with LEDs.

Either way that guys setup was hardly as efficient as it could be and he still got a decent result, and I don't want to argue anymore in this girls thread lol. LEDs should be arriving in about 3 days I just germed a couple Fem Super Skunks from G13 and will get my little experiment going. Its no question that LEDs will be the lighting of the future whether its 2 or 5 years from now (suprised if its longer) But theres no reason why people shouldn't experiment with the newer technologies in different configurations to see if the time could in fact be now.

The underlined portion of this post is the entire problem with LEDs reputation, those damn POS panels they have on ebay and shit, okay heres a little math for you.

Those panels have 225 5mm LEDs each and use 13w per panel (like 0.06w per bulb and like no lumens) A single luxeon diode is 2mm across (more then half the size of those 5mm LEDs it took 225 of to fill the panel) and produces as much as 5w of power and plenty of luminosity (thats 1/3 the power of 1 of those panels in a diode half the size of a single normal LED) When you consider this LEDs become alot more viable.

Procyons are the shit.. HID hores and cheap skates stop hating and spend some money on good LEDS.. Cree LEDs are great.. Much better than 4 th gen UFO. Hella brighter too
