Great One Day, Droopy And Sad The Next

I'm a long time hobby grower with very little success so any advice on what I may or may not be doing wrong is greatly appreciated.

I'm growing indoors with a Rubbermaid grow box. I'm using one 23w CFL bulb and the box is surrounded in white paper and the dull side of aluminum foil on the lid. There is an intake hole in the side-bottom and a fan in the side-top of the box. The fan is not being used as of now.

I didn't water it because it was only two weeks old and from using the finger test on the soil it was still moist near the roots.

The night before this all started happening it was fine. I saw it's third set of leaves poking out at the top and it was standing strong. The next day when I got home from work it was drooped over. The leaves were dark green in the middle and light green to almost a yellow on the edges. The veins in the leaves were also a dark green. The very bottom two leaves that it had dried up and wilted off, they are now crumbles in the dirt.

I got it to stand back up by sticking a toothpick in the soil and lightly tie a string around the two.

Two days have passed and now the top leaves are starting to show decay. The top part doesn't feel dry but the outer leaves feel very dry. You maybe able to see from the pictures that one of the leaves now has a hole in it.

I used a light spritzer bottle and sprayed the leaves and lightly made the soil moist. I was afraid to over water it as that seems to always be my problem in previous attempts.

I've pretty much lost hope in this plant unless someone else can give direction on what I may be able to do to revive it.

Is it under watered? Do I start using plant food and if not when? Is there too much light or not enough?

Desperatly seeking guidance. Thanks in advance for your comments.

anyone? the leaves are now a very dark green and are curled up except the top two.
It's stretching...you have the seedling too far from the light... and you need more light. Stop by my grow, and check out... could possibly lead to more answers.

Peace & REP+ to you...

See the thing about this plant is when I was trying to get it to sprout for some reason it just shot up and was reaching for the light coming from the window completely across the room. Even before I could plant it, it stretched.

After I planted it I made sure the lights were like 2-3" away from the plant. So from where the base leaves were to where the leaves are now, it seemed to stop stretching... but what do I know.

Last night after reading your response (thank-you btw) I put in the other 23w CFL bulb and now there are two.

Today I get home from work and look at it and I took some pics to get any other suggestions. The leaves are now turning a yellowish-brown at the ends of the leaves and they seem to be curling in.

well that seemed to be the problem. I added two more CFL bulbs for a total of four. The plants have stopped decaying and are back to being green. Thanks for the advice!

Can I remove the leaves that are brown and presumably dead?

Is there a topic about what I should be doing about pruning or what I should be doing during this vegetative time?

Is there a topic about when to fertilize?

How high does the humidity get (day and night) ?
i would say the average during the day is between 60-70% although i just checked it and it's at 74%.

at night i'm not sure. i will check tonight and post it then.

today is a very warm day for march so my temp gauge is saying it's 90 degrees in the box. gotta get a bigger fan.

Here's something I plucked off the internet. I suppose if you look hard enough, you'll find someone dissing just about anything.

Hyponex soil is the cheaper brand of potting soil you can find at most Walmart's, Dollar Tree's(seasonally) etc etc, by far this "potting soil" was the worst soil I have ever worked with, it was denser than dirt, it did a horrible job absorbing any water (the water sat on top of the soil for hours), the small amount of perlite in the mix all rose to the top and to make matters worse their were tiny rocks and pieces of un-decomposed organic material, as the saying goes "You get what you've payed for"

Is MG better? IDK

well that guy must've had a bad batch or something because I don't have any of those problems. I do agree with the statement "you get what you paid for", and this is cheap soil but it seems to be doing the job.

yea i would pass on this guuys advice. treatem good dont over water or nutem yet. and they will recover just fine. and when u repot them just repot the stretched part very simple solution
see now i heard you don't want to re pot the stretched part because the stem doesn't like it. something about roots growing from the stem, i forget.

they say marijuana doesn't grow like a tomato plant where you can do that.

but your saying otherwise and i'm feeling you maybe right.

one bit of advice I could throw in. Get away from that aluminum foil!!!! Spray the inside of your box with flat white paint. Foil is horrible, it will bake your plants, and it causes hot spots....
