Ok folks, I'm making an attempt to push the boundaries and move the bar forward in regard to what we can talk about in the forums. Today Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the Feds will no longer be going after growers or distributors unless they break BOTH fed and state laws. So growing MMJ in Cali and distributing it through co-ops and dispensaries is now legal with the proper paperwork and we should be able to talk about it now.

So, I would like to create this thread to discus the business side of the medical cannabis industry in California, including different career fields and opportunities in the industry, the MMJ commodity market and how to stay within the law and out of jail. I'm calling on all California growers, legal professionals and anyone with knowledge about the industry to contribute to this for the good of all.

I'll get us started with the following questions:

- How hard is it for a grower to arrange a business relationship to grow for a co-op or dispensary? How does one go about that?

- I realize the market price varies, but what is the average price a broker or dispensary pays for a pound to the grower? Is there a difference between the two? Do you have to go through a broker or directly to the dispensary?

- How does the market price vary from strain to strain and how do you find out what strain is in high demand and obtain those seeds or clones?

Please, please, pretty please contribute if you have knowledge in this area and have something to offer!

IM MOVIN TO CALI
seriously though this might be interesting...
It's not really that interesting and it's not really that "groundbreaking" for us. Now it is great that dispensaries and co-ops can go on without the fear of federal intervention, but that's really all that's changed.

You can find most of the information you are looking for on google.

Not exactly the kind of call to action and contribution I was hoping for. Do you have anything informative to say in regards to the subject matter and questions posed in this thread? It sounds like you're from cali and may have something to add. Maybe if you take a little toke you wouldnt be so cranky.

I know that as a patient you can have 8 ounces of dried pot. If you where to go over your limit then you are suppose to sell it to a dispensary. I talked with one bud tender and they said that I could sell it to them with no problems. I have not done this yet but that is what I am understanding. As far as growing on a large scale for a dispensary I am also interested in this.

ah, sorry, I'm at work. Can't smoke, didn't mean to come off cranky. I saw this news this morning and it did make me happy. I do grow MMJ, just on a small personal scale.

I have just been through the "Let's start a dispensary" or "let's grow for the clubs" talk about 100 times with fellow stoners and growers alike. I just get a little tired of it, but if you are serious about it, go for it.

If you have a patient recommendation and pot, they will take it. That's pretty much how these things go down. I've gone into the dispensary with a QP and they were willing to accept my donation. They even reimbursed me for my expenses (that's what the law says).
I would say that you should have at least 4 oz's to try to sell it to a dispensary, best to bring 8 or 10.

Yeah, you can't walk in there and get answers from people about it. It's kind of strange. But if you walk in with it, they take it. If you walk in and ask "how much do I need to bring for you to buy it" you never really seem to get answers. Everything is very smoke and mirrors until you have weed, then it's all good and easy.

you better do it quick. cuz that's the reason why my state of oregon is trying to take our growing away from us. the state wants to have there cannabis store/pharmacies. if the feds can't touch us they can't touch the state and then your state well have control of it. its fucked up but it going to happen sooner then we think. if this happens here you can bet that other states well follow.

Californians are the pioneers of this shit. We have so many pinko commie liberals here we should be just fine. They've already ruled here that the limitations on how much you can grow legally can't be enforced and you can argue them in court for your medical need. I have hard time believing that this will make the MMJ laws in California stricter in any way shape or form.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it'll happen. Hell we have AB390 right now to attempt to legalize it in California alltogether.

That's pretty consistent with what I've heard so far. Thanks again for the info

I would be concerned about the drug cartel/ gangs. I can imagine how those guys will be out looking to rip off any grow they can , it's competition. Until Cannabis is Re-Legalized there will be no rest in Gotham.

Seriously, what? There's still local law enforcement and I doubt there will be any more or less production of MJ. I don't think the fear of federal raids where really keeping people from growing.

To open a dispensary you have to fill out an application and a lot of cities/counties have placed moratoriums on Marijuana Dispensaries. In most places now the only way to get into a dispensary is to buy one.
