How big a pot?

Hey folks

I got myself some 6" pots hoping they would be big enough to keep a small mother. Basically, I want to be able to take 4 clones off a mom and dont want to keep her any bigger than need be for that purpose.

I think 6" is too small, so what size u think would be best? Also how tall u think a plant needs to be in order to take 4 clones?

It all depends on how many clones you take off the mother plant you can make it any size you want.

Yeah but I'm just worried that my small pots (they are actually only 4.5" on proper measuring) will not enable my mother to grow big enough to be able to take 4 clones.

Space is limited so I want to keep the pots as small as possible.

Then you might have to take one clone off and wait for the mother to grow some more before you get the other clones. If you are that limited in space you have to have some kind of tradeoff.

You don't have any other place to grow the mother at ? All you need it one or two 42 watt cfl to keep it growing.

4.5 inch is kinda small, but i have no doubt youll be able to get 4 clones off of her,
how often you gonna cut?
anyway, as long as you replace the mom with a newly rooted cutting your fine

also you might have to top a clone off a few times to get her to bush out before you can really start cutting. but after that you should be able to get 4 at a time especially if your are going to wait till harvest before cutting the next four

Haha, when I've got 1 mother space wont be an issue... I'm Starting from seed, so hopefully I'll get 6 little guys/gals growing. So all six have to be in big pots. Once I've cloned and sexed I can choose the mother. So its just really the interim thats a prob.

I can fit all six in there, but my 2x25W fluro's aren't gonna cover that much space. If they're in small pots they can all line up under the bulbs.

thanks holmes and dr greenz. I think I'm gonna perhaps just go with a bigger pot, maybe compromise to some 7"'s. Hopefully from 7 seeds I'll be able to get 2 or 3 girls. I need 4 clones for my scrog, but I'd like them to be off the same mother if possible. Don't want variation in the screen, otherwise I could just take one or 2 off each female. Would save a lot of time tho.
