hey everyone. i just bought a 250 watt red heat lamp from wal-mart. it was like eight bucks. i also bought a brinks 175 watt, 7000 lumens, mercury vapor light. my question has to do with connection. the MV bulb has a bigger base "mogul" whatever the hell that means. it says it can only go in fixtures containing ANSI #39 ?

the heat lamp however has a normal connection. should i just go to a pet store and buy one of those reptile heating, clip on lamps.

id appreciate if someone knows what i should do or if i should even use these lights. thanks

you dont want to use heat lamps

congratulations dude, you just bought two of the most useless possible lights for growing pot. first off why would you even buy a heat lamp for growing pot? and secondly im pretty sure mercury vapor bulbs require a seperate ballast just like hps and MH lights. so if the heat lamp doesnt start something on fire the MV light plugged into an ordinary mogul socket will. read through the 101 FAQ'S as well as the major threads in newb central to find out how to grow weed without alot of dumb decisions

ok. i was at the store and just thought i would pick up whatever might work at the time. i doubt i will lose sleep about returning them next time i am there. anyways, if you would be so kind, are there any usable lights (even if just used for an added supplement to sunlight) at wal mart? if not, would i have to go to a garden center place to pick up something like a HPS light?

Read up on CFLs thats what your looking for. 65 watt, not burns like a 65 but has 65 watts. Grab 3 of them to start.
