i have been thinking of that for 10 years. lol. or untill solar panels can power my grow. but prob more efficient lighting will come first. i kinda like my t5s better than hps on the small grow. but either this plasma or leds will take over soon enough. 5 years max and leds will take over hid. there wil be a whole lotta hpss in the garbage. newbs will find them in the trash and start hreads asking if hps can grow weed. the answer will be no in 5 years.

Maybe not no, because we know better. But maybe we'll be saying "not like this!!" and be posting pics of some huge massive buds. On a scale reading 126 gr for one bud!!!! But it will be legal by then I hope.

that plasma sht is crazy, wonder how much heat they produce?

I have a 150hps, i made from homedepot security light...a few florescents and the uvb bulb.... but i cant wait to upgrade...im growin on a budget right now.

Ya, I've been growing on a tight budget myself. Still using a 400 hps a friend gave me. It's and old warehouse light that I rewired with cords and made a reflector with some stainless steel sheetmetal. But it works. A store near me has a 400 MH for $50 and $10 for the bulb. But it's one like mine and I don't want it. I want a digital ballast. They seen to be the best thing for lighting right now. Better output than the older design magnetic ballast. Little cheaper to run and no heat from it. Or at least very little.

yea a buddy of mine just got a 600watt digital greenhouse ballast and light, with a 6'' easycool reflector and dam its sweet.. the ballast has its own fan which keeps it very cool and he has a s&p 500cfm duct booster fan sucking on the light, my 150 watt puts off more heat than this 600 setup. the glass on the light is not even hot, you can put it right on the plants.

I would be skeptic about using those lights unless you have a nice sized budget. If the math adds up then why not try it. But if you are going to try it then i recommend getting a light tester to see how many lumens it really puts out. Also get a tester to see if its in the right light spectrum. Then do the simple math and see which is cheaper... the hps or the plasma... hey roll you are using the same stuff i am.. the GH ph +/- and the fox farms

oh i am not buying those lights if i do to compare to hps. i just hopw they run cooler for the same lumens. but if everything the sites are saying about them is true then they would be great. that streetlight 1 looked around 10000k colour. it would prob veg amazing. i'm def going to check these out more.

Looks like this may be going somewhere, keep everyone posted!!! I have some faith in this investigation for sure, let me know if you see anything for flowering stage!!!

i'll find it tomorrow if it exists. i may have to try these. 22000 lumens from a tic tac sized bulb. 3 of those would be nice. they have to have 2700k or 3000k. its very common colour. i'll find it. if the whole fixture is around 200 each i'd try it.

im under the impresion that marijuana does best under the right light spectrum... a little to much or to little and the plant wont get its full potential... im refering to the 10,000K... maybe im totally off here but i seen a chart with blue and red streaks on it... red for veg and blue for flower...i cant find the chart but i know its on riu someplace

i have that chart. blue is for veg and red for flower. 10000k is perfect for veg. its in between the white and blue spectrum. i have 2 t8 10000ks over my lowryders right now. they outperformed the 6500k noticably. that streetlight is definately a great choice for veg but they need a low kelvin model for flower. they prob already have it. it wouldnt be just 1 colour i dont think. the penetration must be insane. should be out in 6 months hopefully. i want them more for flower then veg. veg lights are easy to come by. my work throws the whole 400 watt metal halide in the garbage evrytime the bulb burns out. i have tons of highbay 400 mhs. lol but i only use 1.

kelvin stands for the colour of a certain steel that is heated to that temp. i think its nickel. if you heat nickel to 10000 degrees it will look the colour of most mhs. if the lumens are accurate that light would work great and looks like it doesnt piut out much heat. cant wait to see if there is a 2700k. most lights come in that colour.

The reflector and some fans really makes a big difference. Mine is all custom made (I was going to say homemade but custom sounds better) and practically no heat from my 400. I run 2. 130 cfm computer fans inline with my filter. Custom fan setup also. Cost me about $15 to make a fan.

that sounds better then what i was trying to say... i do know that nickel melts before it reaches 10K ... i used to work in a foundry and we pored molten metal into moldes to make pieces for off shore oil rigs...typically we heated all metal up to around 3K degrees F... but it metled around 1K depending on which metals we put in there.. steel, nickel, and whatever else

Hey 1982, Did you hear anything on like a release date or anything like that, and where can you buy the fixtures for $200??? This is some serious shit, they have created something great man, if this is developed further we could all end up tossing out our HID's like 1982 said, that would be something!!!

Yea custom does sound much better than homemade...i will have to remember to use that from now on...

Yea i made a custom reflector out of sheetmetal, its not very fancy though. did you make some kind of sealed reflector or how do you have your exhaust setup? Any pics?

right now i just have a box fan blowing up from underneath and a piece of metal redirecting the air, to the bottom of the light/ top of the plants and out the front and top...if that makes any sense to ya

It seems to work pretty good, never gets above 77 with the door shut completely. air is alwasys moving up through and across the plants. but deff goin to have to make some real "custom"exhaust when i get a 400 or 600.:bigjoint:

amc havnt seen them for that price but i meant if i could get 100 watts for 200 dollars i might try it. they are just about to be realeased it seems.
I to am looking into the homemade cooling setups. i had the perfect custom 1 but skimped bigtime and it broke. the glass wasnt tempered. and the day before i had the chance to gt all the tempered glass i wanted for free. istill can get it but its about 10 miles away. and across the border which costs 8 bucks. when i go across next week i might grab it.
i harvested another bud today being happy with the previous buds. this bud alone was 1 of the igger 1s. 33 grams it weighs wet. finally hit the 100 gram mark now for wet basically. still tons left. here it is. and the lowryders and hempstar plants after cutting some. and my transplanted clone
